    Default vn/vp project Cali style

heres my vn project, striped a clean 1 owner vn calais that was smashed up the ass for the interior (leather) and drivetrain (v6 200,000km). full wiring loom swap all the way through, with cruise and all electrics. bought a vp lexcen with a blown engine for 500 bucks (had a full areo kit on it). by the way the areo kit is almost in primer and ready for sale if anyone is intrested message me. 14 peice body kit. working on getting it running, think it needs a fuel pump. anywho im going vp instead of vn. need bonnet guards bars headlights indicators taillights boot garnish. here is some current pics. will post more as i go... this is the first project car in Australia and it had to be a holden im a big GM fan. ive been driving my wifes 89 telstar since ive been here and i cant wait for it to be recycled into export steel.

acrylic paint, what a nightmare. 2 applications and nothing but aquamarine colored soup. tomorrow going smooth some light ripples with bog and and get it in etch primer. first pic is scraped clean with a razor blade and second one is finished sanded with 80 grit dynabrade and ready for bog. got the vp front as well so those pics are coming.

    Default progress

couple more pics. ive done all my gaps- fit the bar(reo not tightened dont make fun) headlights and dialed in the bonnet. ive also welded up the indicator and antenna holes. im going to run a hidden antenna. got a few more small dents and ripples to smooth out on the passenger side doors. fit the new boot lid (other one goes with the are kit) nearly to the primer stage i just need a rear bar and the slider brackets. took out the sunroof too because it wasnt water tight anymore, gonna urethane it properly after paint. this is the most multicolored car ive ever painted lol...

    Default primed...

some happy snaps of todays efforts... i used metalux 8797 tinting 2k filler, its 2:1 with primer and direct gloss color, then 4:1 with hardner and desired thinners, 10% thinners over the bog thats going to get blocked and then 15-20% thinners for sealing. i did 4 coats of primer over the bog and 3 thin ones all over. ill probably start the repairs with 180 grit and then buzz the rest of the car with 400 on the orbital sander. guide coat and finish the car with 800 wet. those bars are next, one is for the vp calais and the boot. then booth time.......

planning on this ford color vixen, its heaps brighter and cleaner than maranello red. im going to mix the red ice pearl into some ppg d895 clear base (2 heaped tea spoons per litre) and shoot 2 coats over the vixen red than 3 coats 2k clear. the ice pearl is a glass flake thats translucent so when theres no sun it still looks like a clean red, unlike when a metal flake is used looks like specks in the paint. those ice flakes are gonna dance in the sun like richard simmons on crystal meth. i cant wait...

Dude, that is dedication! And you're not taking your time about it either

Clearly you've done this before I'm beyond impressed!

Paying you to come around and respray my HQ when you're done with this

Car's going to be mint when you're done, plans to keep it as original as possible?

im a spray painter so its all routine for me. im not gonna go too crazy with it like painting the door trims muzza style, and putting monster tachos and shit. im just doing a simple house of kolor ice pearl overlay on ford vixen red. i got some vp calais door molds from the wreckers yesterday so i gotta clean those up and prime em too. im game for painting the HQ. when your ready holler at me. ill get this vp buttoned up and you can come and have a look at it. keep checkin in im doing some wet rubbing tomorrow...

Maaaan you're making some fast progress on that car ^_^ You should have a talk to Hakhawk, his VP wagon has been half painted for over a year

Loving the full conversion you're doing to Calais too, there's nothing more satisfying than ripping a car back to the shell and starting from scratch You konw everything's perfect that way!

lol @ painting door trims muzza style, I'm glad you know where the sensible limits are

My HQ will probably be ready for some paint next year sometime. Likely next summer if anything. It sports a LOT of surface rust at the moment!

surface rust is good in my opinion, i hate not knowing whats under a paint job. some dude stuffs masking paper in a fist sized rust hole and then bogs over it...

How else do you think I intend to make the HQ pass a VicRoads inspection next year?
