guys i need to ask advise from anyone who goes on snow holidays. this will be my first one (maybe) and the prices are insane. for anyone who has been on a ski resort in victoria tell me is it normal price for one adult and 2 kids (13 and 15) to be quoted $50.00 each for dinner each night. so for 4 nights it will cost me $600.00 for dinner only. Is that normal....?

There is a reason why Commodore is number 1 since 1979. Its the best Aussie car. I loved my VL and I love my VE. I cant help it.
Jeez thats expensive, but everything is a rip off at the snow.
I haven't been to vic, only to thredbo and it was expensive as hell 10 years ago.
A lot of my mates head over to New Zealand instead. Might be an option?
Ever time I go to the snow... I stay in a town near the mountain... it's a pain in the arse having to drive like 30-45min each morning... but alot cheaper.
In terms of runs... I think i enjoy falls creek the most... though I think bulla has longer runs...
Either way... staying on the mountain is expensive beyond a joke so if you're looking to save some cash, get accomodation in a town at the base of it or something.
Good luck
turn 24 this year and i have never seen snow in my life![]()
this is the apart of living in SA that sucks, if i could click my fingers i would live in victoria, where everything GOOD is within reach. (the only thing you dont have is MT PANORAMA) I agree if i had a base from victoria then my bargaining chips would be a lot better than at the mercy of a travel agent who has to organise every inch of this trip.

I've seen snow because I was born and lived in europe... so snow is not all that exciting for me...
But i think everyone needs to build a snowman atleast once in their life...
snow sucks, especially on the rd's, come to NZ we have plenty of ski resorts etc so prob not as expensive also factoring in the plane flights which are coming down, but then you have to deal with us kiwis
mate i got caught out, as me and my 2 kids dont have passports....this time next year i wont have the same problem. the ski packages to NZ are half the price to Victoria....go figure!
dont get me wrong VIC people, i luv the place but $150.00 per meal for 1 adult and 2 kids is crazy. Also did i mention $500.00 a night for a room. we aint talking Buckingham palace either...

Which resort are you planning on going too?
Generally when i go up i stay in a lodge (about 70-90 per night for cheaper ones) and take your own food and cook your own food. The kitchens are well equipped to cater for many people. Who quoted you that $50 per person? Is that too eat out or for the lodge to provide dinner for you?

only time Ive been to the snowy mountains was when they were on fire.
looked funny seeing a sign reading "snow fields ---->" with a tanker parked behind it and smoke in the background![]()
Give you the best advice...
Go to new zealand, whenever we go skiing thats where we go, better snow, better service and most importantly better value for money.

Ive been to the snow a couple of times, and it is expensive, even doing it in a massive trip, i generally go through Uni, costs me $1,200, Hot breakfast and dinner included, bus to and from the snow, stay on the mountain, straight out the room out the door onto the snow, on top of that i generally spend another $1,000 mostly on drinking, lunch is overrated really. We generally go to Hotham on that trip cos they are about the only place that will have us these days, we have a helluva reputation now...
I hadnt seen snow till i first went two years ago, i dont really feel the cold so got off the bus in boardies and thongs and trecked around doing what we had to, then proceeded to ride body boards down the toboggan run in the same outfit! Theres vids somewhere of it all, have to find them...
Mt BULLER. the place quoting $50.00 per person per meal (incl kids) is the DUCK INN. you gotta remember that i am at the mercy of a travel agent who relies on kickbacks from selected organisations. i told her that i am happy with 2 sticks and a bit of galv sheeting for accomodation. (hinting that i dont need the Taj mahal to sleep in, so i was expecting the Duck Inn to be a dump...)
anyway plan B is to do Great Ocean road (told you i luv victoria). I promised my kids a ski trip but if 10 chicken nuggets and a scoop of icecream is $50.00 each every night, i may have to change plans.

Ouch. But it is expensive. Take a look around while your there and see about cheaper alternatives for next time.
Wow, insane prices for meals. We have been to the snow for the last 7 years straight and now take our two kids. We stay at Dinner plain and drive or catch the bus to the mountain (Hotham) which is 10 minutes away. Just ask the locals where they eat or better still get self contained accommodation and take most of your food up. The pub meals at DP from memory are max $20 -$25.
The snow isn't going to be chaep, but you don't need to pay through the nose!

Gees...........and just as I was about to pull out of the Ski-trip my school is running.........
350 bucks for a coupla days at Mt. Hotham. (2 days I think) Apparently that includes meals as well.
I think the equipment hire is extra, but we can get that ourselves for a cheaper price.
All up it'll probs work out to about $450 worst case I reckon.
But still, I guess I'm a bit of a tightarse lol.
Maybe nows the time to go to the snow. Never touched the stuff. Never seen it in real life. (only on tv).
But still, 500 bucks for a 16 year old workin at maccas, it isn't peanuts. I have to work hard for that money.
