    Default Flinders Street Protests 2

i know this thread was closed so i started this one just to put in my 2 cents.

I am a proud Australian citizen, i am also Indian. Ive lived in Australia for 17yrs now and i honestly think its one of the best countries in the world. I drive a Vt commodore, I go for drinks after work, watch the footy (west tigers is my team), I call everyone mate, I fkn love BBQs and I dont have an Indian ascent. But I am a proud Indian and I also consider myself a very proud Australian.

All you people telling Indians to fck off home just because they protest for their rights (yes, everyone has a right not to get bashed up). Very unfair. And before you say its not their country, its not your country either. Aboriginals were the first people in this island. I love that Australia is multicultural. I love that we are all able to express our opinions freely, freedom of speech.

Think...if it were your mates who were getting bashed you would want to protest. And you should, more power to ya. If your rights have been violated in any way you have the right to protest not matter what colour you are, white, black, green , blue, purple or yellow. Hold up traffic if you wish, close down the streets, waste police resources (we pay their salary after all) if it prevents just one person from getting bashed or hurt in any way, it was worth it.

Dont be small minded or judgmental. Look at the big picture, the only thing those Indians are asking for is to be treated fairly. They did nothing to deserve this treatment. And the only reason they got this treatment was because the are different.

I thought Aussies were bigger than that. I thought Aussies could get along with everyone (within reason of course). Look past those little differences.

What happened to the Aussie spirit???
c'mon guys... Be a mate and help out a mate.

was aboriginal, since colonisation this land has been apart of the Crown under Terra Nullius...

there are correct means to go about an issue and I feel having a protest of only Indians could cause more animosity; if it was a group of all races against group bashings then if would have been more effetive.
IF all those who protested wrote to their local MP, by law their MP has to write back. If enough people write then it would have positive flow on effects

That is true, if people from other races got behind it it would be more effective. But Indians kinda like to stick together. Just like any other race i spose. Good and bad in a way...

And as you reference to "Terra Nullius" meaning uninhabited or uncolonised land, the British found a loop hole in their law. Just because the Aboriginals didn't build houses and buildings and lived in teepees or huts or whatever, it doesnt mean they weren't the first ones here. It didn't give the British the right to banish them from a place they called home for 40000 yrs before anyone else found this island.

fr3ndlyfir3, good on ya, i support your argument 100%. Im a white australian, and as far as I know my family has been here since about the early 1800's. Australia is a melting pot for multiculturalism, it's an example of how people despite their ethnic, religious, sexual etc background can learn to accept each other and imbraces their differences and what other cultures have to teach them. I went to a highschool where i was 1 of about 50 white people of out 600 students and its taught me to be tolerant of other races. My best friends are phillipino, chinese, lebanese, greek, african and yes indian. Its a shame that a small ignorant minority would single out a particular group of people based on their ethnicity.

this situation reminds me of the race related violence of cronulla (which coinsidently was on my bday). Its amazing how people are quick to identify their differences before their similarities. Im sure that if the people who mug these students actually met them in a different set of circumstances they might actually be mates, targeting people because of their racial differences is an ideology that belongs in the same period of time as the bronze age, back when the world was flat and sea monsters were a legitimate threat...

There is nothing that justifies this type of violence

Yes, okay, you may have the right to protest, but not in the middle of the city, blocking traffic. Holding up traffic, closing streets, wasting resources? what good is that going to do you? Simply more arse kicking from the police and fines and shit.

Whats funny is, the guys who have been caught attacking these people aren't even white Australians. Funny that.

If you want to protest fine, do it where it doesn't effect LAW ABIDING citizens trying to go about their life. The stunts pulled by the group of thug idiots in Flinders st was nothing but a joke. If my mates were being bashed I would help them find the thieving scumbags who did it and return the favour. No need to protest. I just find it hard to believe that all these people protesting were mates...just another group of morons if you ask me.

Lastly, I am so over "Australia belongs to the Aboriginals"...bullshit, they didn't defend the land and lost it, should we start handing countries back to every race who may have once had run of a land? Europe would be ****ed, middle east would be ****ed, USA would be ****ed and even some parts of Asia. While aboriginals once LIVED on the land, that was about it.

Maybe you didn't watch the news or read the papers. But the cronulla RACE riots was also about the RACIAL tension that flared up because of some stupid people.

What kind of idiot stabs someone for nothing, racial tensions flared up leading to the riots.

What kind of idiot bashes someone for nothing, racial tensions flared up leading to the protest.

I wasnt saying that white Australians attacked those Indians. I was disgusted buy the attitude towards this matter that other people had on this forum.
They came here cause the thought it's a great country, lets show them that is a great country. That attitude is not conveying a good message about our country.

In Australian law, everyone has the right to a peaceful protest. They didnt hurt anyone during their protest. They didnt get arrested. Australian teachers protest many time a year, they also block traffic and close down streets. And the protest cause the want more money. tut tut tut thish is the kind of attitude which will give Australia a bad name.

People are allowed any attitude they damn well feel like. The only message being portrayed is if you don't like the law feel free to break it.

Do I look like someone who agrees with striking and disrupting everyone's work/life that do not give a shit? These people are as bad as the Indians who caused the issues the other day. Blocking off streets by anyone does nothing except cause chaos for those who really couldn't care less. There are many other ways to get a message across without having a tanty and disrupting everyone else.

So you hate all british? After all, they did that to India. Or did you forget about the colonisation of India? War happens, either fight back or give in. No point going on about it 220 years AFTER the fact.

Have to say I agree with this. Most nations on the planet have changed hands a dozens of times throughout history. The only reason Australia is seen as more delicate than other invasions is because it's relatively recent, and the dust is still settling. People need to realise this is the way it is now, Merry Old England owns the place. The sooner everyone accepts that and moves on, the sooner we can all be one big happy family.

How hard is that to understand? See us white people can see past the colour of our skin and make statements covering EVERYONE. Clearly something your not able to do as seen in your post above.

Of course you wouldn't be happy about it, but that's how nations are formed; survival of the fittest. Look at how other animals determine their territories and leadership - it really is nature to fight for it.

Yeh but the difference is you are racist towards everyone who doesnt have the same skin colour as you. And maybe you should read my posts properly. I said:

so when a white person does it peacefully in their home country, it gives the country a bad name, but if someone comes over from india and causes trouble while attempting to do the same thing, its peaceful? that makes no sense. but then again, only white people are racist huh
