Default LG LCD Tv's, anyone own one?

Since i have today off work, i am going to use today go finally go purchase an LCD TV. Been looking at Harvey Norman etc, found a few TV's i like. I don't want anything bigger than 42" at absoloute MAXIMUM, but nothing smaller than 37". So basically i have 2 choices in size (37" or 42").

Been looking at LG LCD's, heard mixed reports on them. Dad owns a 42" Panasonic LCD and it has fantastic picture with HD TV, Foxtel, and Blu-Ray DVD's.

I will be running the TV with a Blu-Ray player. Anyone have any suggestions / comments / advice on quality of brands etc? I am going to spend around $1600.

My mum has two LG's... not sure on the sizes but they look alright I guess. If I was on the market for an LCD I'd definitely be looking at the Samsungs. Easily the best picture I have seen produced on any LCD.

haha lg used to operate under goldstar, their reputation was so bad that they had to change brand names. they are alright now though.

and hey coby how are you doing? haven't spoken to you in a while
ensure that no matter what you get, make sure it's FULL hd (1080p). i wouldn't touch any of that yucky hd shit.

Went and had a look. Wasn't overly impressed with what they had for the price i was spending. **** normal HD, full HD all the way. Screw LG too, the comparison of picture quality between LG and Panasonic is quite big. But wasn't mega impressed with the Panasonic models.

Wasn't just about to hand over $1600 just because i could.

**** em then. did you go to jb? just remember you can easily get them down on price, usually by a few hundred.

i would personally spend a bit extra and go bravia, those things are insane and well worth it. it's all subjective though.

See that's what i reckon, those Bravia's were quite impressive with picture quality all with 1080p too. I THINK my cousin is still shift manager at the JB at the Casey Homemaker centre. Will have to check and see what price she can get me.

I'm in no rush, i'm simply not going to buy an LCD because i have the money to spend. I want to shop around and get the best i can. Then i can add more cash on top of my $1600 if i shop around for a few weeks and get something nicer or maybe a new surround sound to go with it.

The 3 brands i would consider now would be Sony (Bravia), Panasonic or Samsung.

So yeah Markie, Samsung is definantly on the cards as a possibility.

We have the samsung at home. I love it.

My boss and work mate both went and got the samsung 40 or 42" (not sure)
They went to good guys and got em, and both came with extra shit Eg: dvd player, and my boss scored a bluray player. all for i think about the 1K mark.

and im also going to look for tv soon, (waiting for a ****ing courier to turn up)

I work at Dick Smith, and to me the order in LCD's are:

    Sony
    Samsung
    LG
    Sharp
    Sanyo
    VIVO

As for Plasmas the only ones that are worth it are Panasonic. VIVO is crap here too.

I prefer LCD's myself, it just depends on what you want. But most consumers are buying LCD's these days. And there's the people that can wait until next year to get an LED tv.

Some people say Sony and Samsung use same screen products, not sure how true that is, but if it is then i find Sony still better, probably due to the Bravia Engine (v2).

Well i watch alot of free to air and DVD's, so i'd prefer the LCD. Can never get a hold of the Foxtel cos mum, sister and missus are always watching it FFS. Gonna get it hooked up to my room with a seperate box in the next month or so.

OK, well, just so you know the LCD wont re-create the true black colours. Plasmas do. However with a plasma you get the heat and energy issues. And half life.

If both get too dim and you can't fix it with the remote. To fix an LCD is about $20-50 cold cathode light at the bottom. For a plasma it's a regassing (cheaper to get a new TV).

LED's solve the only drawback LCD's have and that's the true blacks because they dont use the light bar at the bottom of the screen. So it's the best features of Plasma and LCD all in one! And yes, Sony have some LED TV's out already, they look awesome. Just not sure what shops have them yet. I've been told by customers that the Good Guys do?

Yeah i have heard they are available for purchase, but the smallest Sony one available (smaller than 32", i mean around the 20" mark) is around $3000. And the bigger one at the moment is around $9000. Not sure of the size on the big one though.

The big one according to the sony rep will be around the 50" size. Can't remember exactly what he said when he demonstrated the TV's. I should really login to the Sony Tech Centre more often LOL

They are expensive now, but will be cheaper next year and after that. Depends on if someone can wait to get them as to whether it will be worth it.

BTW, never pay retail. Especailly entertainment stuff. I always have to discount to get a sale in the entertainment section on TV's, projectors, blu rays, surround sound systems e.t.c. I try to help the customer out a bit Which i guess is why the company makes next to no money from me on big sales.

If you can't wait, then i would definatly suggest LCD's, just shop around, and whatever you do DON'T fall for Vivo if any shops have them that size. They will be the cheapest, but put it next to a Sony or Samsung and you can see exactly how crap they are.

mate there is one really important thing you should consider. Is there a reflection, cause reflections a b**ch especially when theres a night or dark scene. I know people say only plasmas have reflection. But LCDs do as well to some extent, some more than others.

My Samsung 32" 1080p Series 4 has 3 hdmi inputs and one slot for pc connection with 30,000:1 contrast ratio. It's just perfect for my needs especially tv viewing in which my cable provider only broadcasts sd channels. Even then the picture quality is still great which is very much better than the one on my old CRT unit. I think Samsung tv's are one of the best LCD TV as far as picture quality and budget are concerned.
