Ok im starting a new job tomorrow and the guy said i need an ABN number, ive tryed to apply for one online but everytime i try it makes me answer some questions about the work and than it says im not entitled to one, i dont understand the guy said i need one it doesnt make sense can anyone help me out??
or what else should i do
You need to modify how you answer the questions to entitle you to one...
"Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."
- Theodor Seuss Geisel
yes but if i do that is that going to cause problems down the track because it was saying i can get fines and shit if i put in the wrong info
If you're applying for a job position, why do you need to be considered a business? You're certain the guy didn't mean a TFN (Tax File Number), yeah?
im positive he said ABN apparently im considered a sub contractor at this job
I had to answer mine 'differently' but **** all tho to get mine otherwise it gave me a load of shit and wouldnt let me do it. Ive had mine for 4 years and no issues yet
Chuck Norris destroyed the periodic table, because he only recognizes the element of surprise
r u sub-contracting sav? r u shore they didnt say tfn? just so what minux said and modify what u said or get ur mummy to do it for you
i did mine in 07 and i carn't remenber what i did but it was a real pain in the ass if i remeber before tonight ill let u know.
there was a drama when I was applying for mine, because I was answering no to the question about "will you be responsible for rectifying any problems" or something like that.
turns out I actually was (even though I was sub-contracting) going to be responsible for error costs, but that's one question that helld me up for a little bit.
whats the question that it stops you on? ie: the last one it lets you answer before telling you you're inelligible?
the same one but i just found out today i need to apply as a soletraderthanks for everyones help

Basically you do your work, submit an invoice to the Company you are contracted to, and then make sure you put aside around 20% of your earnings to cover your tax as you will not have tax deducted.
You are will also need to keep all your receipts for items your purchase for work related expenses.

I would go speak to a acountant. Owing the tax money at tax time can be a killer. Also as a contractor you will not get sick pay, holiday, superanution etc
to my memory if you earn under $6000 in the financial year, you pay nothing on tax, correct me if im wrong,
best bet is go to an accountant, altho, you may spend a few weeks working without pay as you wait for your abn,
You have two options:
1) See an accountant.
2) Do this YouTube - Black Books - Bernard Avoids Doing His Tax Return
