    Apple to sue Palm?

    Apple seems to be gearing up to sue Palm for ripping off the iPhone with the Pre.

    Apparently the UI and touch navigation in the Pre is too similar to the iPhone and they claim it is their intellectual properly.

    What a joke!

    So what? No other smart phone is allowed to have a multi touch screen?

    It basically works the same... sure... but the back end is build entirely by palm.

    That's like anyone who makes a computer mouse being sued by the original developers of it...

    didn't microsoft try to patent the mouse so no one else could make one? or perhaps that was just the scroll wheel. it was one of the two...

    exactly. how the hell can you patent what is essentially detecting multiple touches on a touchscreen anyway?

    Apple have over 200 specific patents on iPhone. If they did decide to sue Palm or whoever, it wouldn't just be on a "whim"

    The issue here is that Palm was one of the innovators of touch PDA phones and have many patents to do with that. That most touch phones would infringe... just they are not being dicks about it.

    And if it came down to it... Apple could wipe Palm off the map... not because they would definately win a legal battle... but because they could tie up palm in a long and costly legal battel... this would send palm over the edge.

    It's like apple are scared of someone giving them some competition... and patenting the multi touch pinch and spread gesture... please... next apple will say your not allowed to pinch your girlfriends nipples or spread her *beep for the kiddies* because you are infringing their gesture patents...
