I have a quick question.
I was driving along the Neapean this weekend heading through Mt.Eliza towards Mornington.
Anyway, just after the BP there is always a speed camera in the 80kmph zone.
So I see it up ahead, doing 80kmph and moving same speed as the other traffic around me... so no drama.
BUT then, FLASH!
I see it out the corner of my eye in the rear view and side mirror, quick speed check... 80kmph.
So, my question is, has anyone had this happen to them... going along the speed limit and getting snapped.
Like, do they set the camera to take the picture even if your on or a touch over.
Now... I'm 95% sure my speedo is accurate... checked it with the GPS and the GPS was showing 102-103kmph when my speedo was indicating 100. So i should be in the ballpark.
I guess I'll find out if a ticket arrives... but yeah... never had a speeding ticket in this car so I assume that the speedo is accurate.
Any thoughts? Also, how long does it normally take for a ticket to arrive?
Thanks
I have driven past heaps of speeds cameras and caught flashes out of the corner of my eye ,only to find the flash was from another vehicle going past reflecting the glare of the sun
Was it a manned one? Maybe they were just doing a calibration check with a hand held. They set the speed on the multanova to a lower speed and check that it records the same speed as the hand held.
Not sure if it was manned or not... it was getting dark...
AH well, thanks guys... guess I'll find out soon enough.
i know the car your talkin about. Yes there is a guy sitting in the car when it goes "flash".
Normally you would get the ticket in the mail within a week.
If there is another car in the picture (if you get the ticket, and choose to see the pic) you can dispute.
I saw him in the spot about 130pm, and he was gone by 330pm on Saturday.
dont worry, il start a ride thread soon.
Yeah... see how it goes... I was in the Right lane and had a merc about a car length and a half behind me in the left... but the had been there for ages since the hill upto BP so they where doing the same speed as me.
Cheers
Here's a funny trick I have tried a couple of times when we had a camera in front of our house. Get you camera out and use the flash as people go past. You wont stop laughing when you see people hit the brakes right after the flash goes off and sometimes they come back to have a look. Perhaps this is what happened to you. My bro did it to me once when I was trying out my radar detector and for some reason it didn't click. I was on my way to thump the camera operator until my bro pulled me back and told me it was him but you should have seen the relief on the camera operators face when I realized.
yeh well you just have to wait dosent it just piss ya
my speeding fines took 2-3 months to come in, so i had been pinged fo months which kinda sucked. I mean i shouldnt have sped in the first place, still, i dont feel theres any reason for it to take that long
I've had this happen to my. I knew I was doing the speed limit and I was the only car for a few hundred metres, but flash went off. I asked a mate whos a cop and he said it might have been a calibration flash. I never recieved a ticket.

You are a tool mate. no point to that post... what so even... unless you wanted to point out to people you are a tool... in that case... very well done.
From what I understand, first up you were using a radar detector, which is Ilegal. Then when you thought you for snapped for potentially speeding, which is also illegal, you were going to assault a camera operator, once again illegal. And you also seem to think its a "funny trick" to distract drivers and cause potentially dangerous driving conditions. Nice.
Never seen a single post which summaried someone as a knuckle dragging tool so quickly.
Can I ask you Victorian guys a question regarding the tolerance allowed on your speed cameras.
From what I've read, there is zero tolerance for speed in Vic, so you can be booked for one k over the limit.
Given that manufacturers build their vehicles to have a speedometer tolerance of between 5 and 10% fast, meaning you can never be sure exactly what your speed is, how do you deal with such a stringent lack of tolerance for speed enforcement? Does this lack of tolerance apply to fixed speed cameras as well as hand held ones?
^^^ I beleive that that 5-10% tolerance is under the displayed speed. Though I'm not 100% on this.
I know im my gf's Hyandai Accent, speedo reads 100, actual speed is 97. Similar situation with my old VX.
I think the zero tolerance is across the board, but coppers with radar guns cbf chasing everyone who is doing 2kmph over.
The under speed reading on the speedo is to trick drivers into thinking they are getting the stated fuel economy for their vehicle. Vehicle manufacturers will advertise their cars as having so many litres per 100km but to achieve that you are actually going slower than what the speedo is telling you. Less speed = lower revs which results in better economy.
In WA the photo comes on the fine all the time, and I think it's 5% over here, as my boss always gets done for 117 but I have never been done at 116.
afaik its 2km leeway in vic. dont hold me to it though. just what ive been lead to believe.
On Grimshaw St theres usually a mobile speed camera very early in the morning close to the Plenty Rd intersection, everytime id approach this clown id slow right down and blast him with the horn, well after the 3rd time i guess he was getting a little peeved so the last time i did it he actually flashed me lol, i was doing about 40 - 45 kph. Havent seen him there since. Im hoping i dont get a suprise in the mail.
Wtf... why are people having a go at camera operators? Their just doing their job, they don't need wankers annoying them. If your not speeding... then wtf is the issue?
Anyway, this is not the topic of this thread.
