hi all i wanted to make a poll but couldn't work out how lol but anyhoo just wondering what everyones opinions are of putting gauges on the bonnet.
I want to put an oil pressure, water temp and maybe a tacho or trans temp gauge in one of those 3 gauge clusters. I would use 2inch gauges. thanks for the help
is this for the HJ GTS or for the daily VR?
Could look pretty good on the HJ... on the VR... not so much.
Thats me anyway...
Also, there are some legalities around this sort of mounting so you may need to look into that before making your mind up.
I'm pretty sure that you can't have chrome pods and they can't be in the drivers line of sight if they are on the bonnet. Not 100% on this unfortunately.
Good luck.
ugly and illegal
id have to agree with jesterarts
but im not really a fan of them in general
Mabye try some researching before posting?
They are legal, providing that they are no more reflective than the vehicles general body work (i.e no chrome) and you can still see a persons feet at all times 11 metres in front of the car in an arc, from the drivers seat in its rearmost position.
Having said that, i've never seen them look any good on a Commodore....More of an older car thing IMO.![]()
i think they will look good on the opriate car. but im pretty shore there illegal
^^^^^^^^^^^agree 100%
maybe on the gts but u would still need a good looking gauge or it will look tacky and cheap
Forecast For Tonight Is Alcohol, Low Standards And Poor Decisions.
They look good if they on blown cars etc etc as they are there for more of a purpose.

I reckon the black cupped gauges on Geoff's blown Clubby look pretty good. But then again they aren't there for wank factor. They actually serve more of a purpose.... Boost gauge etc.

Yeh, Geoffs is probably the best i've seen on a Commo. I still wouldn't do it personally though....But, then again i'm over modding Commodores anyway.
ok i think that means leave them off lol they are for a purpose though as my mate and i have been playin around with tunes (the reason for the tacho) oil pressure because mines dicky and flicks on and off all the time although i've had it checked and everythings good and water temp because i do a lot of towing and don't really trust the standard one
Super gay imho.
Yeah agreed there on Geoff's car. Haven't seen them look that crash hot on anything else. I think it's because Geoff has the black cups and they look better against the red of the car plus it ties in well with the cooler etc looks wise.
It's been tastefully done. They are an expensive thing to put on your car just for looks though. Waste of cash IMO.

Only Autometer on a full show car, not everyday driver. And when i say shw car i mean like a blown HQ, not a lancer lol.
I reckon it looks shit because it's a VL, not because of the gauges. But then again, i dislike VL's so of course it will look crap to me.

Also, think of the extra wind resistance when fitted on the bonnet!
True. But everything i MYSELF have said, applies to any places gauges are mounted. I was talking about bonnet gauges earlier due to this thread being ABOUT bonnet gauges.

Yeh, they would probably serve the same purpose on the pillar, but that looks crap imo. I'd rather them in front of the windscreen on the cowel anyday. Thats where i have mine, but it's not a standard daily driver and my car only ever came with a speedo & fuel gauge.
Wind resistance?? your kidding right....Not a problem when your car is a brick on wheels (like most older cars)![]()
