Wondered why your auto commodore wont start, only to see its in Drive?
Took me 10 minutes to realise this morning... popped the hood and all![]()
is one of the most common call outs for the racv.
yes all the time lol i did the same as u popped the hood tested my battery to see if it was flat lol than i call my dad to come see what the problem was and soon as he jumped in to try and start it he goes its in drive u d*** lol
Haha many times but never called for help over it.
Helped some guy and his friend with supposedly 30 years of mechanical experience at the shops once, they were all over the car when I decided ask what was happening and they said it just wont start and I just casually asked is it in P and they said of course haha so Iwent and checked and of course it want haha. Let me tell you they certainly felt like idiots afterwards haha. Its actually one of the first things a check now if my car wont start.

LoL yeah I've done it once! I was in Sydney with my girlfriend (now ex-girlfriend) visiting her family... we packed the car ready to come back home to melbourne and it wouldn't start. I was thinking "argh not again!!" cos I had had trouble with the battery and alternator not too long before that... then my girlfriend noticed it was in drive. I felt like an idiot but seems I'm not the only one to have done this :P
Then after owning a VS that had a faulty shifter switch or something (had to bump it around sometimes when trying to start the car... like it didn't know it was in P or something) I picked up the habit of always making sure the shifter was always right up in P![]()
when i installed my stereo this happened. i was so pissed off, thought i had stuffed up some wiring. then after about an hour of stuffing around i realise it was in drive. hahaha
I've done this a couple times - usually after installing a stereo or pulling the console out for some reason.
Never done it too badly though, just been confused for a couple minutes.
A few weeks ago though I was trying to move my housemates car and it wouldn't even turn over so I spent ages trying to jump start it, then eventually just pushed it out of the way. He got home later that day, jumped in, flicked the killswitch and drove off.

My girlfriend did it in my old VS, she had to call RACV's roadside assist because she couldn't get on to me.
HAHA!!
This thread gave me a laugh.
I've had the problem once, car wouldn't start.... I turned the car upside down aye.... I checked my leads, battery, EVERYTHING!!!
My car obviously retarded... cus It was in Park but thought it wasn't! Wouldn't start... I finally ended up flicking through the gears cause I knew it had to be in Park to start and got back to the Park position and it cranked over eeeeassssy.
So run through your gears before calling RAC![]()

I haven't done it yet but I always thought it would be a good security measure for theives to leave my car in D when I lock it up.
I haven't had it in D but I have had it ever so slightly on R so it looked as if everything was normal but it wasn't lol.
Have done that, also with VS's the petrol cap popping open randomly (turns out the seatbelt was wrapped around the lever)
i drove my first ever auto about 12 months ago - took it down the main street to pick up some stuff from the shop, got back in and it wouldn't start. I was terrified that i'd broken it. One of the boss's daughter's friends walked past and hopped in - took her 30 seconds to work it out...
its happened a couple of times,
put the gear stick in 1st, so i have space when working around the head unit/ciggie lighter area, start the car up, it won't, so check the fuses, terminals, flicking thought the manual, doing the security check step, still no start then realizing that i forgot to put it in drive.
shame it only seems to happen to me out of all the people i know
It's a good thing though, Imagine if the handbrake failed or wasn't engaged and you started the car!
Done it a million times....
Always when im doing something to the headunit and i forget, Heart jumps for a second and i think "ahhh wtf this time!" then i realise what i done and continue on my way![]()
Lol, only done it a few times.
Give's me a good scare, then I feel like such a moron lol.
One of the many joys of a manual transmission - you can start it any gear, so long as you put the clutch in.
i don't think you will find a single person with an auto that hasn't done it at LEAST once...... i did it a few days after i got the SS![]()
