**** what a bloody idiot :/ another classic 4wd driver( up here in qld anyway) doing stipud shit just cus they're in a bigger car. i'd be pissed too. lucky he didn't hit you
**** i'm pissed off, just got up to drive my girlfriend to the station, our driveway is after a bend in the road.
i reversed down the driveway and when we got to the road i looked out my side, and she checked hers. kept my eyes alternating between my side and the rear mirror and reversed out fine, ending up with the ass end pointing in the direction i'd been looking. then straightened up and took off.
for the whole time i was reversing out there wasnt another car in sight, so this guy in a triton must have come round the corner while i was in the street already and looking ahead, completing my straightening/driving off.
anyway we'd just taken off and were doing 10-20 and he flies by me at speed ON THE INSIDE, seemed faster but it was probably just 50 or so.
**** it scared the shit out of me. had no idea he was there. i'd been doing all my checks but given it's only a 1 lane each way once you've safely entered and are getting to speed you're meant to be focusing on stuff ahead of you to make sure you don't crash into them when getting up to speed and pulling into your lane 100%. if i was quicker to pull left after straightening i probably would have hit him or run him off into a tree/parked car which are always around.
**** what a bloody idiot :/ another classic 4wd driver( up here in qld anyway) doing stipud shit just cus they're in a bigger car. i'd be pissed too. lucky he didn't hit you
Isnt it illegal to reverse out onto any roadway?

You cant reverse out across a lane to go the other direction on a main road. You can however reverse out of your drive - using reverse gearand and choose either direction to travel in.
But I did sit for my test ummm almost 30 years ago..... So I may be wrong too.

We've been told the same thing, I always drive in and turn around, or reverse in, plus its heaps easier to get out.
Years ago, a week after mum got her new car she reversed out the driveway and a kid hit the side who was illegally riding on the footpath with no helmet. When the police got involved it was her who would have been charged because she was reversing out of a driveway, so we chose not to pursue it![]()
I was sitting in the right hand lane on a 2 lane freeway, doing 95 ish, heavy traffic in the left hand lane. Some dic**ead in a 4wd flies up behind me and starts flashing his lights. I gnore him. he gets on the horn. I turn the stereo up.
He goes onto the median strip which is a huge v shaped drain, about 3 lanes wide and overtakes me, on the grass, doing about 120.
I wish i had swerved at him to spook him, but he probably would have rolled it.
"I don't have to worry about safety, I bought a 4WD/Volvo".
I think police should worry less about speeding and quadruple the fines on failure to indicate, following too close, driving without due care and attention and other 'road manners' stuff.
just another wanker on the road mate. Law or not law (Minux can you show me where this law is written), a large percentage of people reverse out of their drive because its not practicle to reverse in for most people. People know this and shouldnt be just flogging their car up the inside parking lane because they reversed out their driveway. What a stupid thing to do, to bad for the bloke waiting to cross the road on the inside there or the kid that just fell off his bike and he couldnt see him on the ground.
WTF, i enter my driveway legally then? Sounds unlike me
(drive in drive out)

its not illegal to reverse out of a driveway in any state in australia that i know of
if i had to reverse into my driveway i would have to get out of the passenger side cause at the moment i have 1inch from the wall passenger side and 18 inches to get out drivers side
the only thing about reversing out of a driveway is your supposed to sound the horn if your view is obscured
but this also poses problems who wants to blow a horn at 6.00am and wake the surrounding houses up just to get out of a driveway i'd say they would be p****d of with you if it happened everyday
three thing in life are guaranteed
taxes
death
and car repairs
im pretty sure it is illegal..if you have an accident it voids insurance...while were on the subject of idiots..almost ran over a girl yesterday who didnt bother looking as she crossed the road...i saw her talking to her friend as i was coming up to the road but thought she would stop and look for cars.......wrong..next second she is right infront of my car and i have to slam my brakes on...gave us both a fright tho..esp since i had been drinking night before and might have been like .1 ..since im on my p's that could have been a bad situation if i wasnt paying attention.
Chances are it is illegal jafo, personally i couldn't care less. In todays age, laws like that have no place, but are still technically against the law......

OP - i don't get two things - how was there enough room for him to fly up the inside of you and what difference does it make being a 4x4? I've had more commodores nearly write me off than i have had 4x4s. Anyway...
I didnt say it was illegal, I asked the question of it was. It certainly is illegal to reverse off or on a roadway in a heavy vehicle...I know that from my MC test.Law or not law (Minux can you show me where this law is written), a large percentage of people reverse out of their drive because its not practicle to reverse in for most people.
