Why the **** would you want to come here... Take it from a Queenslander who moved south. Stay the **** where you are.

    ...and I drove.

Find a rental company that will let you travel interstate and get a cheap little van. I got a van for about $50 overnight (local use only) to give you an idea

The only problem is you have to return the van at some stage.

My little brother and his (ex) girlfriend moved for wa to vic, they drove in her vl 6cyl sedan with trailer loaded to the max, and fat ugly dog in the back cost them about $700.
12 months later me a my little bro drove his vr v6 wagon from vic to wa with all his crap in the back (brum kit/ tool chest + box and tons more), cost about $6/700.00 in fuel.
did again 4wks ago in a vx v6 sedan, but from canberra to wa, that cost just over $500, going steady, not pushing too hard.
    awesome road trip

    You drive a ute lol.

My sisters looking at doing the opposite at the moment, pretty much we have weighed up the costs of moving it up there & what its worth VS sell it, and buy a new one up there.

Box your main shit up and courier it down if its not to much. Are you planning on bringing your car down? If you get it car-couriered down, you can always fill it with shit before it goes on a truck.

As above, you can hire in one state, and return in another state. Just ring around different companies for those sorts of deals.

There is also a company called Kent (assume there Aus wide) who pack your things into a shipping container, which is then trucked or trained up to where you want it, and then unloaded the same way

As Stealthy alluded to some car rental companies offer fantastic rates for one way trips at times when they need a certain car bought back into another state, etc

I'd probably be travelling by car if it's only that amount of stuff

I moved back from Brisbane to Victoria last year. Hired a twin-axle cage trailer and hauled it one-way on the back of my statesman. Cost $360 for one-way hire for a week.

Then buy two tarpaulins. One to lay down on the inside/sides of the cage trailer like a bowl, and another to put over the top and sides like a tea cozy. Makes it nice and waterproof

Oh, and coming from someone who moved to Brisbane and only lasted 6mths - you're doing the right thing hahaha

LOL, I lasted 11 years before I decided to move back.

I had a bit of stuff to move, but not a lot, so I got a removalist that did back loading, cost me about $250 to move all my shit from brisbane to melbourne. that was about 8 years ago though.

keep calling us qlders inbred and you will find a nice and cheap way to move down there, we will help you move with that kind of attitude.

removal company is the best way to go, and fly, either that, or box up the main funiture and appliances, and hire a trailer, and drive down, cost a copule of hundred in fuel, but is a good road trip

Don't encourage him. The average IQ is higher in Vic than any other state, wouldn't mind keeping it that way.

My parents just came back from a long stay in QLD and are raving about the weather, they are also raving about how backwards the state is in every way compared to Victoria, my Father told me the place is 30 years behind in the way it's run. I said like South Australia :P? and he just shakes his head and says you have no idea

Hire a ute/wagon from a big name rental company. they often let you pickup in one location and return at another. For business with hertz i regularly hire a Commodore in Mt Isa and return at Gladstone.
