    Default I hate tailgaters

More than anything else I hate tailgaters, especially the ones that sit up your arse when the car in front of you (be it one of more cars in front) is the vehicle travelling slow, supposedly causing the 'tailgater' inconveniance......

So this guy rides my arse all the way down Kilkenny road and then overtakes. Made especially worse by the driving rain at 6:30 this morning. Gave him some what for at the lights, just to lower myself to his level.

    Feel better for it though.

Same man... I cant stand it. Im one of those guys that will slowly slow down to cause them even more inconvenience, and then speed up (just enough) when they go to overtake so that they cant get around me before they are blocked in by the car in the next lane!

I just brake .... HARD! They hit me, they pay, it's that simple. I once "brake-tested" a tailgater at 120 k/ph on the freeway after he had been tailgating me (1 metre off my bumper) for a good 10 minutes. I hit the picks, he shit himself and speared straight over 3 lanes then composed himself and I never had a problem with him for the rest of my trip. Of course I made sure it was a straight stretch of multi-laned road with only the two of us in sight. After all, I didn't want him to kill someone else .... Lesson learned though.

    Default tailgaters

Yeah well it shits me to tears when people are in the overtaking lane and going the same speed as those in the left lane. today they were both going 70 in an 80 zone
So i tail gate, yeah thats right i sometimes get to within half a metre of them. If they are travelling the right speed then fine ill sit back. But i have absolutely no tolerance for those who slow down others. And if they brake i will just run into them with my solid five post bullbar. (thats a joke) But its awfully tempting

    So heres a discussion point.

If you were to tailgate someone and they did slam thier brakes on do you think you would do more damage if you were tailgating from 2-3 meters or 2-3 inchs (if its possible to ride someones arse that close).

I think your property would take less damage if you are 2-3 inchs off them when they slam thier brakes on. Less gap to close. Less speed difference when you hit. So you become one mass and slow down together.

What amazes me is that people tailgating actually think they are achieving something. Like their going to get from A to B 15 minutes faster by sitting on someones arse. I guess these guys failed science at school.

i hate tailgaters, if they do it i either slow down or dont move, if they didnt tailgate me i would let them pass. If they tailgate then try overtake i speed up and dont let them pass, makes them angry but hey its fun.

I keep my towbar on all the time

    This really doesnt make sense...

you were on a multi lane road and there was only you 2. Why would he be tailgating you?

I drive to work everyday on the highway and I cant stand people who think the right lane is their god given right, and do 90 in a 100 zone refusing to move over.

I usually pass them on the inside then get in front and jam on my brakes.

Thats my pet hate, other than that I keep a safe distance.

Looks like we've got some quality drivers on this site.

Causing an accident for the sake of it, yeah, tailgaters give me the shits too. But brake testing is the dumbest Idea I've ever heard of. Yes I've heard the old, if you hit someone in the rear, its always your fault. But if I was tailgating someone- maybe I just overtook and was merging back in, I'd be fighting it for the rest of my life if some idiot slammed his brakes on.

Driving around him, then in front and slamming on your brakes.. Duhhhh I'm smahrrt.. The speed limits 100, we don't have to sit on it.

On the other hand, I'm the type of person that if I'm getting tailgated, I'll gradually back off.. Around here theres not too many two lane roads that give them the chance to overtake. But if there is thats when I decide to speed up again anyway, sure it pisses them off. But 99% of the time they have to realise by backing off, keeping a consistent pace, everyone gets there faster.

If you have two cars.. Just go around boxing people in, damn its good fun.

Oh, one more thing, if a taxi is following me with his lights pointed in the air, as they all do. I pull over, then pull back out behind him with my high beams on. They have to learn.

Simple, the idiots need to read the signs on the freeway or the road users handbook that says "Keep Left UNLESS Overtaking". I was actually pulled over by HWP a few months back for travelling in the right lane on the freeway. I had overtaken a truck and just didnt think to get back in the left lane. As for tail gaters my favourite trick is to box them in! Especially if you have a CB let the truckis know and they will be in on it too!

My post was directed at people that tailgate continually, not some person overtaking and then merging.

When I get my new car next year, The old F**D is going to brake test a few tailgaters.
The old ford is going to be my bumper car.. Even as a learner I've always wanted to just bump idiots. Not fully smash into them or anything, just bump them, swap a bit of paint.
I don't use windscreen wipers, i just use the superior handling of the STI to dodge the rain drops.

    ARGH I hate those people.

With me I think their thoughts are "Ah it's a learner, if he isn't already going 20 under the limit then he'll slow down for me."

    Default driving

I get so pissed off when other drivers do stupid shit.
I tailgate someone who is in the left lane for about 100 metres just to let them know that there is someone behind them going faster so if they could move over to let me past that would be much appreciated cause they have been going the same speed as the car next to them for the last km or so. It usually works, occasionally they try to be ********s and slow down, (yes i do it too) if its a t night then the two spotlights come on and then they move.
Anyway i brought a road bike a month ago so since then my blood pressure had fallen significantly and tail gaters or slow drivers arent a problem anymore as i just go between them. Now i just have to worried about getting taken out by someone not watching.

    I hate tailgaters.
If I'm driving through the day what I do is turn my lights on and the rear lights come on and it looks like you are braking when in actual fact you arent.
I tell you they back off straight away.

I cant believe the attitude of some of the people on here. Im not a tail-gater, and yes i do get the cranks when someone decides to sit up my rear for no good reason, but "brake-testing"? are you insane? What if they happened to decide at that moment to speed up and overtake you. You slam on your brakes as they speed up, you and up being spun into a tree and injured (or worse), while they end up possibly dead or even having a head-on with an inoscent(spelling?) motorist.
I usually stick to the speed limits or there-abouts, especially when my family is in the car (wife and 2 young kids). If some ones not happy about it and decides to tail gate me for some reason, I just spin my rear-view mirror around and keep driving the same, as if they're not there. Also if i come up to someone who is not doing the speed limit, i have enough confidence in both my car and my driving ability, to not have to sit right up they're date before i overtake. Just sit back, wait for an opportunity, then overtake, as the law says you should.
There is no reason to tail-gate, and there is even less reason to retaliate to tail-gaters in a dangerous manner.

yeah tailgaters are pricks we all know that i mean someitmes i do the lights trick or just ever so lightly touch the brake with my left foot and yeah they usually get the message but recently a couple of twats in a ford festiva couldnt get the hint even on a dual lane road plus they also had their bloody highs on!!! (this was the city too mind you south road and cross road if you know adelaide) i mean i realise my lancer doesnt accelerate too well when cold cos is carby driven and has no choke whatsoever (never did) but that mitsu inginuity for you

I'd just slightly ease the handbrake on and just you watch how quickly they **** off when they realise you can slow down EXTREMELY quickly with no brakelights muahahahaha

what i hate is when im going the max speed limit and probly a little over and theres still someone half a metre to close to my arse im like right ill just keep tapping the brakes till i get to below the speed limit and sit at that speed limit till they can over take me and when we come up on a duel lane i speed up so they cant over take me and get boxed in behind a car in the other lane and i sit next to the car in the other lane so they catnt go anywhere serves them right after all i am a p plater its my right to piss people off

was once tailgated by a B-double. i gave him the light flick (not brakes just a little brake light action) to which he put his lights on high and got closer. i slowed, he stayed there, it was only once the road became double lines that he decded to pass. so i moved over and let him go. being a smart arse i flicked my lights to high for only a flick - he responded by slamming the anchors, now those things pull up pretty well from 100. the old datto i was in doesnt- so i shot around him. thinking i had enough speed to stay ahead and stay out of his way. i sat on 110. he caught up (speed limited my arse) on passinglane proceeded to overtake me, ok good for him. he got beside me and started to move over. b double 1, datsun 0. im in the grass to i thought fk this, caught up got his rego rang the cops and sat back watching him speed off into teh distance. cops rang back later told me they pulled him up way ahead of me doing 110 ina 70 zone and admitted he was under the influence of drugs(i didnt knwo cops would actually be allowed to tell me that but hey!). i stay well away from b-doubles now.
