$90 stinkin bucks for having driving lights on (SS style). Drove past the resident asshole cop tonight, he chucked a uwey, pulled me over. Went back to his car for 10 minutes, came back and gave me a fine for $90 because apparently i can't have them on unless it's foggy or raining. What a crock. Everyone who owns a Vr/Vs knows the stock lights arent much chop, would he rather i didn't see the road?

It's pretty obvious he just doesn't like P platers in commodores as i see heaps of people with aftermarket lights on their bumpers. I guess i can be thankful he didn't get me for numerous other things.

Its the law simple as that, and if the lights are properly aimed they don't shine very far infront of you either so it wont help you see anything until just before you run into it.

Yea, it's a stupid law, and many people ignore it, but it's a law none the less. Funny thing is if you take it to court most judges will say it makes your vehicle MORE visibile to other traffic and so is allowed.

It's always good to try and hide your P plates if you can, but if the local cop knows you it wont help much. Just keep them off i guess. Sucks, but yea, not much you can do about it. Unless you want to fight it, in which case it will be more expensive.

Hmm, yeah that was my last $90 so i guess i won't be fighting it. Reckon i'd have a chance anyway? I don't think hiding P plates would help me, they'd just get me for that.

thinking of creating a new section:

"I broke the law but I'm not man enough to own it - flame suit required"

It'll be broken down into the following sections:
-How do i get out of my legitimately bogus fine?
-The cop is the town arsehole.
    -They pick on P-platers/commodores/males.
-I didn't to nuffin rong and neva have but itz me last demerit point.

Prove it... Gotta remember Precedent. Laws made through decisions of the courts? correct? If a judge found that having driving lights on was ok then precedent would be formed, thus making the law redundant.

How is it a good idea to hide your p plates? Getting done for not showing your p plates or having them obscured is a 3 point ****up. Personally i think that showing your p plates is a good idea.

I didn't even know it was a rule. The cop said if they're above the grill, they're classed as headlights and therefore allowed. So basically those big yellow soccer ball sized foggies on 4WD's are allowed...

Misinformation from a cop makes a thread worth it? Epically funny! Move to jokes please!

theyre normally connected to high beams arent they? Theyre not allowed on in city driving... im pretty sure i read that somewhere

Are your fog lights standard on your car or did you put them in?

It doesnt make a difference to the law saying you cant have them on, but I've got mine on (only when I have my normal lights on).. although when I had first got my car like any other 18yo p plater who just got a car with fog lamps i had them on pretty much 24 hours I've never been pulled up on them.. but maybe coz theyre not very bright, and theyre slightly tilted downwards so even if you look directly at them they dont blind you

Tough luck though bout your fine.. I've copped a fine before for something pretty basic (THAT I ADMIT I DID WRONG) while friends have gotten away with only a warning for much more serious offences

Also, if you dont like reading these type of threads... dont read them? Its pretty obvious what it's going to be about just from reading the title isnt it? I'm pretty sure there's no rule about posting threads like this?

    If you cant see very well, then go and get some brighter headlight bulbs. Click link below;

PowerBulbs - Car Bulbs, Headlight Bulbs, Xenon Bulbs from Philips and Osram, including Philips Xtreme Power and Osram NightBreaker globes.

Breaking the law isn't a reason to try to see better. There are many other ways. eg use the money that you might spend on fines for using driving lights and go buy some new brighter globes or buy a new or cleaner set of headlights for your VS.

I have just sold my VS which I owned for 3 years and I had philips x-treme plus 80% bulbs in the low/high beam H4, and in the inward high beam I had phillips plus 50% H3 globes. My lights rivalled the brightness of late model cars. My VZ has better lights admittedly and probably attributed alot to the projector style, but my VS had absolutely awesome lights with the upgraded globes.

Dark coloured cars can get lost on the road, but having more lights on increases visibility for OTHER vehicles. I wasn't talking about your own visibility! Your vehicles visibility to others.

Well, firstly a friend with fog lights and coloured LED parkers got fined, took it to court and the judge said they made the vehicle safer, so threw it out. My collision i had my driving lights on and you could see that from the pics. Judge said that she could see i was increasing my visbility to other road uses and appluaded that. Two different judges, both ruling that it increases visibility, so its ok.

It's a good idea to hide your P plates when your not known as it takes the heat off. I've never been pulled over. In my old car the tint was too dark to see the P plate at night though, so i was never pulled over. In my current car the piece of paper on the rear parcel shelf is lying on the parcel shelf (it "fell down") and the front one is hidden by the sunvisor strip (about 50% hidden) with the sunvisor down so that no police from behind can see them. I used to show my P plates, but the two times i've been pulled over i've only had one cop mention them and i talked it from a fine to a warning. They are fairly useless, think about WHY they are on your vehicle!? Whats their purpose?

4th day of having p plates, started driving to gf's place only to realise pulling up into her driveway my p plates had been nicked (i had external ones at the time)... most P platers in the area being terrified of the local hardass cop, me being a little worried moreso at this point, being my gf's father and all....
