    Time for my rant.

I work two jobs and at one I get treated like ****ing scum by elderly people (Daws Road Recycling Depot) and my other job is a Door to Door Wine Salesman.

Firstly, the recycling depot. OK you cranky old ****, you think i'm going to give you more money than i should because your on a pension? You think i'm going to let you get away with falsely counting your items in the hope that your going to get more money? You think you can call me a disrespectful little shit because i was smoking at work (even though i'm a foot taller than you and i greeted you with, "Hello Sir!") then appear surprised when I turn around and tell you to take your shit out of the tray and **** off? You look at me like i am a piece of shit, like i could do so much better. Well guess what you judgemental old ****, i work two jobs and am going to university next year. **** off and keep anything from that senile old brain to yourself.

Now the sales job. I said door to door because i do my selling door to door. I do NOT randomly knock on peoples doors and try and sell them things, nor do I try and sell someone something they haven't tasted or do not like. I am not a ****ing insurance salesman.

Elderly people are by far the most disrespectful people i meet. They fill in the surveys, accept a call from me and make an appointment. When i get there they take the cups and slam the door in my face. No thankyou, hello or anything. They are just rude, old, ignorant and senile.

The ignorance and crankiness of old people just drives me insane. They think they deserve respect because they are old. I give no one respect unless they earn it through actions or words. The only old people I can stand being around are ones that do not tell me how to live my life, do not try and steer me in what they think is the right direction. So practically my Grandfather and that's it.

i like it at work, on register i have the light turned off, the register gates closed and a closed sign on the end. and then some old person comes up and starts unloading. i just stare at them and then walk off.

like it when im closing off and its busy, and they come over and go "arent you going to open up, cant you see its busy", i just go nah im going home/ on break

Theres no point in being 'nice' or 'respectful' anymore... no one appreciates it.

You let someone in in traffic they dont even wave, not even a nod or anything.

You open a door for someone they either look at you like you just insulted them, or keep walking.

If you dont stand so close to the person infront of you in a line, other people feel that its ok to come and push in without acknowleding your existance.

Ive found that its middle aged/younger people that are the most rude. Never really had a problem with elderly people, but maybe thats because I'm around old people alot (having 6 grandparents, worked in a nursing care facility, etc etc) so im kind of used to it?

I was raised the old fashion way, to do the right thing, respect people as you would like to be respected etc etc.

The 1 in 10 people who DOES wave when you let them in in traffic or DOES smile or say thankyou when you open a door for them makes it worth it.

Too many people have no respect.

    Edit:

oh oh oh oh!! i do remember one encounter with an elderly lady though.

I was driving to uni on the day of a particularly stressful exam and i had ALL my windows completely up and I had my STOCK stereo all the way up (stock eurovox or whatever it is, really isnt that loud). Ok so you can hear it from outside the car, but its not LOUD (especially seeing as its a calais so it has the extra sound proofing and what not).

I was stopped at the traffic lights at a tram stop, this old lady walks up the window pointing downwards (exaggiratedly < is that a word? probably not) and with a DISGUSTED look on her face, and she was mouthing something, couldnt quite make it out, then she went up to this other older lady standing at the tram stop complaining when the other older lady shook her head (in agreeance with the first old lady).

    that really annoyed me

I would have wound the window down and politely asked them if they had a problem with my music. Non-aggressive confrontation is the best way to express annoyance.

i think old people take advantage of how nice and respecting us young lads are to them.

Maybe they should, idk, but some old people can just get so rude and arogent, like this old lady on the bus to school the other day. She was absolutely abusing and telling this bus driver he was a pig and didn't know what he was doing just because he took a wrong turn, which he did apologise for and go back, mind it was his first day

The bottle shop i work in is renowned for the elderly disrespectful people coming through, simple greetings seem to go into the "too hard basket" for some of these people, barking orders at me like im an inferior person, so these days, i either call them on it, shake their beer up, or just tell them we dont have what they want, either we are out of stock or they dont make it anymore, the manager is just as fed up with it and knows what we put up with, so the occasional raised voice etc generally goes unmentioned...

I got sick of it in my last two jobs and on more than one occasion have raised my voice and told them to leave, the simple old saying of "Treat others as you wish to be treated" seems to be thrown out the window to them... they can get bent....

I was in a shop one time when an older woman went to push in ahead of me and place her order. I loudly spoke up to the shop assistant and said "Excuse me but I have been waiting for some minutes and this woman has just pushed in." Without waiting for a response from the old duck I then placed my order and shouldered my way to the counter. She tried to say she hadn't seen me....I'm 6'4" and weigh about 110kg, so I'm stuffed if I know how she couldn't see me. Perhaps extreme rudeness comes from extreme blindness, I don't know.

There is the odd one of us that appreciates things. I always wave when someone lets me in traffic, I usually hold a door open and let someone in if I get there first but when it comes to letting people into traffic myself that can be different. If I see someone that needs to get in front of me then I let them in but if it's some dick that tries to barge in and out of traffic I make it impossible for them! Strongly believe in being respectful to others and they will return the favour.

I once had an incident with an elderly person in a car park once. I was waiting for some slow driver to reverse out of a park. Sitting there patiently with my indicator on for her to move and just as she was out some old dude came around the corner from the other direction and flew into the park almost taking out my front. A few spots further on and where he had past there was a free spot so I parked there and when I walked back towards his car he was just stumbling out so I had a bit of a go at him. He stuck his face into mine and told me to **** off and that he had taken on bigger boys than me. I pissed myself laughing right in his face and told him to watch out or he would have a heart attack and also reminded him he was with his wife where I was with my mates which made him shut up. Then as I walked off I told him I hoped his car was still there when he got back, I came back a few minutes later and he had gone. Hopefully that guy thinks twice about being a dick now.

I work in a Leagues Club so like 75% of my customers are old people, mostly female. My god they are the worst, don't get me wrong I get on well with most of them but some of them are just plain annoying. We used to have a $4 roast at lunch on Thursday. Thats $4 for a full plate of meat and veges, and they would complain its to expensive. And when it went up to $4.50 a few of them stopped coming saying that its ridiculous, COME ON!! And they are so opinionated about everything, its just frustrating.

Have to agree with you there. Was on a bus with 2 gothic gentlemen (you know the type, black clothes, dreads, tattoos, black everything, slayer shirts etc. i knew them so knew they were gothic). an old lady left her purse on the bus. these 2 blokes got off at her stop, and went after her trying to give her her purse back. she went off and tried to convince people they were trying to mug her!

This is all rather amusing. Alot of you find elderly citizens rude. Put yourself in their position for a minute and imagine how insanely rude, disrespectful and ill mannered a big proportion of the youth that are floating around day are......

Don't get me wrong, i'm only 24 going on 25, but even i can see how disrespectful a huge amount of todays youth are. I don't see why we are critisizing elderly people, just goes to show why they probably don't show alot of US respect and are rude, hell, can you blame them? We are 20 times worse than them. With all the smartmouths running around thinking they are above the law (hoons are a good example), i don't blame the elderly one little bit for being rude to us alot of the time.

Hence why i am rude to alot of people my age, if you don't show me respect and a positive attitude, why should i show it to you? Alot of people need to take a long hard look at themselves before critisizing others (including myself sometimes).

Got to agree with you there cobez. but how many of you (im talking 18-24 ages here) have gone to a shop, restaurant, whatever, and have been served by an older person (50 odd onwards) and have been treated second rate? On many many occasions i have been in line at a shop or restaurant (im using these purely as examples) behind middle aged/older people, and have seen them being treated like royalty. Then when i am served, i have been ignored, treated rudely or arrogantly. Its a bit much. I have always been nice an respectful to those of the older generation. is it too much to ask to be treated the same?

I know what you mean, but i personally don't let that kind of thing get to me, if someone in that situation was rude to me, i'd simply just be firm and civil to them. That is not be rude, but don't be nice to them either if you catch my drift.

100% on the money there cobez.

It's easy to have a whinge on the internet about old farts this and arrogant c***s that but at the end of the day, does it really matter? Fair enough it sucks the big one when an 80-something year old lady pushed infront of you or whatever else it may be, but in my eyes the best thing to do is suck it up, put it aside and get on with it.

LOL, having worked at a similiar venue I know the feeling

One of our worst patrons at the time made up her own rules that anyone over the age of 85 gets everything free (meals & drinks) and insisted it was a liquor licencing requirement

She also used to complain loudly to anyone who heard her she had been waiting 15 minutes for service be it in gaming, bistro or the bar

Used to steal all the complimentary biscuits from the coffee station as well, she fainted at the venue once and her bag spilt open and it was packed with pre-packed biscuits, sugar sachets and tea bags
If ignorance is bliss why aren't there more happy people around ?

In my original post,I said that I found myself stuck between the rude and ignorant elderly and the youth. I'm closer to the elderly in age, and find them often intolerable. To many members of this forum, I'm old, yet I can't fathom why some who are older than me are so bloody rude towards me.

Yeah, many of today's youth are so totally lacking in common decency and manners, it is astonishing, but that seems to be endemic in today's society and reflects on my generation who should have tought them to respect others.

Why, however, some elderly, who were raised in times where manners and respect were strongly reinforced, should be so utterly lacking in those attributes today, defies explanation.

The point of my original post was to describe how even someone my age, a lot older than most on this forum, cop crap from those older than myself. I treat others as they treat me and expect to be given respect only by earning it myself. The post was intended to generate discussion, basically that's one purpose behind an internet forum such as this.

The question of "carrying on the whole day" isn't relevent - this thread has simply given others a chance to voice their opinions and outline their experiences.

Life would be dull if we were deprived of such opportunities, wouldn't it?
