You've just given them a different set of standards to younger people by saying these things together.Hence why i am rude to alot of people my age, if you don't show me respect and a positive attitude, why should i show it to you?
By what you've said, us younger people give respect where it is due, and don't where it's not... So why should this not apply to the old farts who are constantly sour bastards, regardless of who it is directed at? This is the point of the thread, at least that's what I got out of it. As most people have said, it is not every older person who is an arsehole, it's the ones who are though that are being criticised. They have no more justification to be cranky old buggers than we do to be cranky young buggers. We have to put up with the rude people in our own generation too you know, along with every other generation.
To the rest of it though, spot on. Give respect where it is deserved, don't where it's not. Personally, I will go out of my way to make things run smoothly. Example off the top of my head; I would prefer to park my car nose-in, driver's side door close to the next car over, than further away. The reason being, by making it that tiny little bit more awkward (but not putting myself in a situation to damage the car next to me), the driver on my left can get in easier when they want to leave.
You can't hold elderly people's clumsiness or confusion against them, it's just part of aging. What you can justifiably do though, is be irritated when their stubborn, pig-headed ways can cause serious accidents. Like the ones who can't drive for shit but refuse to relinquish their licences.
