Wouldn't this question be better asked in 'that' thread?

short of more engine restrictions (similar to the p-plater restrictions) I don't see anything else that will make a difference. Stronger penalties/impounds will not stop the dropkicks from acting out, and unfortunately any restrictions that are enforced will affect everyone, not just the individuals in question.

It has been said before, but it is far too easy to get a hold of high powered engies and bolt-on go fast bits, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but encourages the stupid few to go nuts and in turn give all drivers of performance vehicles a s**t reputation..

Crushing cars perhaps?? Really get the point across?? But you'd still need to get caught first, which usually isn't until it's too late and some fanboy in their overpowered monster has ploughed into a family car because he (or she) lost control while being a wanker on the roads.

It's hard to put in place anything that won't disadvantage the good as well as the bad..

I don't think it will work, I think it's just an excuse track advocates use to support their cause.

We have plenty of tracks in NSW, we still have plenty of hoons. In my experience street races in Australia aren't planned events - they aren't like you see in Fast and Furious where people block off a street and run drags - they are impulsive on-the-spot decisions. Eg. Bobby Boostalot in his hotted up R33 pulls up next to Roger Revvhead in his pimped out VX, testosterone gets the better of them and there's your race. Like hell they are going to have the conversation:
Bobby: "Why well met my good sir! Quite an automobile you have!"
Roger: "Why thank you my good man, would you care to partake of a race at the municipal motorsport venue?"
    Bobby: "Indeed! Post haste!"

Hoons might use the track as well, and sensible street drivers may use the track too, but will it stop hooning? Well it sure hasn't here.

Increase the driving age to 21 might help, and/or restricting novice drivers to 40kW/ton cars. Not popular obviously, don't mean it won't help.

Keep in mind, hooning isn't limited to one act, and there is a different solution to each.

Most people throw burnouts into the mix when discussing the hoons in the WRXs that keep killing themselves lately. Totally different problem.

We're talking about HERE, in SA. No-one has ever claimed a track thats open would result in ZERO hoons on the road. All i've ever said is an open track would give genuine people a place to go legally, and weed out the people who would never use such a facility, and then the current laws could be made MORE severe, and have a just cause.

You might be, but the thread is in The Pub, and says nothing about being restricted to SA?

No-one has ever claimed a track thats open would result in ZERO hoons on the road. All i've ever said is an open track would give genuine people a place to go legally, and weed out the people who would never use such a facility, and then the current laws could be made MORE severe, and have a just cause.
While that would be nice for genuine people like yourself who know better than to break the law, the lack of this facility is absolutely no excuse for anyone to break the law. Why should the presence of a track be a prerequisite to punishing the law breakers? It's not like there is a constitutional right to do burnouts.

If someone puts themselves in a position where they are able to be punished under these harsh laws, they ought to be fully aware of the potential consequences of their actions.

It's not like its hard to avoid police attention if you do the right thing.

A track wouldn't solve all current issues and would create other issues, like track cars being driven on the road

Forgive the OP for his lack of information in the thread. He's clearly talking about the report in the SA paper........

I rather took it as a more general discussion, but I'm going to bow out of this thread because it's doing my head in having two parallel conversations about the same thing

Hence my suggestion of having it all in one thread......But Sav being Sav, has to make 100 new threads.

Hooning has been around as long as cars have, and I think the government is wasting resources trying to fight the problem. The country has much bigger issues at the moment, which require much more attention than said issues are getting.

    My $2 worth.

If anyone can look up the amount of cars confiscated in the Portland area please do so , because you will see that it's very very very low. This is an area with alot of Commodores and a lot of V8's and no doubt a faster average street car than anywhere else in Victoria (Somewhat Proven inthe Portland v Hamilton v Warrnambool street car shootout froma couple years ago:P ) there's serveral burnouts pad and several drag strips in the area. I think the numbers will speak for themselves and stop any doubts about what the facilities do

Interestingly enough over here in Sydney, you're likely to find that it's the western suburbs of Sydney, you know, where Eastern Creek raceway is, that have the biggest problems with street racing.

I'd be willing to bank on socioeconomic and cultural background having much more to do with it than proximity to facilities.

Eastern Creek International Raceway - Australia

Enough to keep most people busy I would have thought?

Edit: Forgot to mention WSID for the people who don't like curvy bits. Also in Western Sydney:

Once a month and have a cams license? I was thinking something more along the lines of a weekly thing (pretty sure one state has Wednesday nights AND Saturday nights) and no need for a stupid cams license would be reasonable.
