    Default Riverside Police

YouTube - Riverside Police Target Street Racing

OK, what are peoples thoughts on this?

I think it's a good idea, except listen to the first part again. Mainly:

"If they're not into street racing why would you need that? Why would you want more power going to your car?"

    and

"Most street racers like to modify their car like that"

So ahh, they charge people because they wanted more power. If that were to happen here in Australia i'm sure many of us would be dogged too!

What are your thoughts on this?

LOL Was thinking the same thing... Wow he has a Steel intake pipe to help improve the fuel to air ratio and the pick up time... "Yep its turbo that's for sure, that steel in take pipe says it all"... One word Idiots... Its a good idea, but they really need to know WHAT they are looking for... not just thinking they know.

danja, that's not the main point. I'm all for these checks, but by saying that you have modified your engine for power and then being labelled a street racer because of it is a bit much! This guy by the looks of it only had a CAI which was polished and a strut brace...

It didn't seem like they were trying to charge him with anything relating to street racing, they just questioned him about it - hardly controversial.

It's a pretty safe bet, assuming the intake was fitted by the driver, that he's a "car enthusiast" of some form, and while not every car enthusiast is a boy racer, many certainly are, and I for one don't blame any police officer for seeing a young bloke in a modified car and putting a bit of a lean on him to make sure he's on the straight and narrow. Profiling is a tool of the trade.

they got the title wrong. should read:

YouTube - Riverside Police Targeting cars that look like they might somewhat possibly be involved in Street Racing due to modifications that are actually legal within government guidelines

what do the cops think someone will say?
"you, this car looks like it could race, do you race?"
"yes sir. every day. i do burnouts everywhere i go, i constantly drive 200+. please give me a ticket and crush my car officer"

but this thread is headed straight for

Having a camera in your face often has that effect.

Don't you need someones permission to film them? I know it goes on anyway, but pretty sure you need to ask them 1st. That could be why the camera disappears.

Not quite, you can film them, however if they ask you to stop you must. It is against the law for them to demand to hand over your camera without a warrant or belief that it contains data relevant to a crime. Even then they can be jailed for removing any stored data from the device.

So a cop can tell ya to stop filming? does this apply to everyone?

i.e does anyone have the ability to stop people filming them? does this change in different countries?

I have no idea on other countries laws, but only police can make you stop filming in Australia. Even then, it is only if they believe a crime is being committed. I was threatened by security at one place I was shooting, they tried telling me they were taking my camera gear and that it was legal, so I asked them to wait while I called the police to let them know I was being mugged. They took off pretty quick

Best practice is, if someone asks you to stop, just stop, it saves so much hassle.

good thing this doesn't happen in oz.
who was it on here who once had to convince the cop that their bunch of bananas wasn't a turbo, or get them to count the exhaust pipes to prove their 6 wasn't an 8?

Well, i can tell you for sure that America is different:

In the United States, it is illegal for a law enforcement official to order someone not to film or photograph something.
