Default Wrecking yard with a $65 minium charge WTF ?

I went to the wreckers on Zilmere rd Zilmere (Brisbane Northside) yesterday ,To try and find a dead Ecotech alternator so I can polish the caseing
I noticed the place was deserted and thought it was a bit strange as last time I was there it was flat out with customers and phones ringing non stop as approached the counter I seen a minium charge sign of $65 I thought this must be for eftpos

Nope evertyhing no matter what it is it starts at this price ,the bloke behind the counter told his boss brought the charge in so it made it worthwhile for him because his workers had better things to do

Talk about financial suicide ,by the way a another wrecker gave me the Alternator I wanted because Im a regular and they only charge $50 for a working one, I have bought heaps from these guys and $65 gets you a lot from them

Anyone else come across this a business that doesnt want customers?

i haven't been to a wrecking yard, but the some of the wreckers/parts dealers i've dealt with have been such miserable *****s to deal with.
one's repeatedly sold me dodgy/broken stuff then refused return. aftermarket replacement lights that wouldn't fit, a badly scored cam

There's one here that never fails to stuff people around, then the guy gets angry when you try and return the parts they assured you were correct. For the locals - i'm talking about the short bloke not the fat bloke.

    Where do I begin?
I've had an exhaust shop explain to me for 10 minutes that polished piping was a waste of time, even after I told him it was for intercooler piping. He thought I was talking about exhausts. When he finally realised I was on about piping he said no he won't do it.

I've had auto electricians turn me down non stop. Even after I've said that I don't care how much it costs I just want it done. (install elec windows/mirrors/ central/alarm)

I've had polishing businesses not take on work.

I've had panel beaters not want to do painting for me.

Basically every business in this town with exception to a few, treat their customers like sh*t because there are no other options.

I wonder if they are purposely running their businesses at a loss for tax reasons or someone is suing them or maybe the owner is going through a divorce ,?

Well I am encountering something similar at the moment, not a business however. Im trying to buy a car. Ive been trying to get in contact with two blokes selling their car. First bloke, I got in touch with his wife who said she would get her husband to ring back, hasnt. I have also left a message on their answering machine, no call back.

Second bloke his friend or housemate answers the phone and answers my questions with a series of grunts.

Both cars have been on the market for a while and both cars have dropped their prices recently... Do they want a sale or not?

Case of beer at Christmas time (the type the boss likes) works wonders for cheap parts. And when you run 3 VN's this form of graft n corruption is needed

$65 min charge - well thats saying dont come here we dont need your business - we have it covered by other means

Geeez I've come out of the wreckers with a heap of stuff with change from $20! lol Thats ridiculous.

Our towns car Audio place shut down and I took my car into the Auto electrician to put the head unit in and they ripped me off so bad.
They don't like to do it so put the prices right up to deter everyone. Luckily now because of forums like this I can do a lot more by myself and dont need to pay people to do everything for me.

vlv8vic: no idea who your talking about? lol

haha saying that, he's always been so bloody good to me, but **** have i seen him do some things i'd never speak of doing to customers.

the second fella you speak of is pretty easy to get along with, provided you do the right thing by him.

Yeah i'd been right for years then the short c turned on me. Never had any trouble with the fat c. Funny thing is that's how they refer to each other!!

hahaha nah, second one is always good to me. saying that so is the first one, but i'm waiting for the day that changes.... i've seen and heard it all before with him, so nothing would surprise me! joys of owning a new car, not needing to visit them! lol

saying that, wreckers will change in following years. back when vh's all had the same 6cyl engines type of thing, it was easy. little stock was needed. now with our alloytec's there is so many different varation's. look at even vt's for example, so may different fuel pump assembly's, bcm's different to each car, instruments, etc etc. nothing is so easily compatible as it used to be.

its nothing to go to dealerships now to buy spark plugs and they want either a vin or eng no because there can be 4 differents sets for them or something silly.

My local wreckers are great with me, I can just walk in there and take what i want, and most of the time alot of little things they let me just take. They have great customer service and are always willing to help you take something off a car. BTW NixonLS1 That's Budgewoi wreckers.

When i was living in Cairns, the local wreckers came up with a novel idea.
They had a 'beat the crusher' sale.
All the cars which were destined for the crusher on monday morning, were dragged into a seperate paddock. The radio station was there, so was the crowd! Standing room only. The place went off! lol
The deal was....any part you wanted off the cars was $1.
The only condition.....it had to be carried over the 'finish' line by 1 person.

Funny as watching 2 guys carry a 9" diff up to the finish line, then watch as 1 poor bugger had to lift it over the line. lol
    "Oh....a 9" diff sir?....that will be $1 thankyou!

I had my HK GTS at the time. I scored a good grille, 2 front guards & a beaver panel for $4!

I thought the wreckers had hit on a good thing!
