Default P Platers and new Hoon Laws

To be quite honest I'm getting quite sick and tired of all this hype over hoons and anti hoon laws and P platers. I'm very aware that there are a substantial amount of idiots out there that go out and do stupid things like burnouts on the street, high speed drags and just generally excessive speeding, then go and get themselves and others killed. But I'm just sick of hearing that 'P platers and youths are irresponsible' etc etc etc and on the list goes, generally blaming all road problems on youths and hoons.

Legislation is not going to solve the hoon problems. Obviously like this guy that just lost his arm and then went and bought another car, everyone is just going to do what they are going to do regardless of the cost. P platers and other drivers are still going to speed, do burnouts regardless of what car they can have (and some people are still going to disobey that law) what the rules are regarding them specifically etc.

Instead of making more laws and policing the 'symptom' why not attack the root cause of all of it. The people and the way we educate them. Put drivers ed in schools, not just a couple of sessions, but as a compulsory subject, both theory and practical.

And to bring a close to my long rant...I'm sick of the 5% of idiots ruining it for the other 95% of us that try and do the right thing. and the media's general bitching and overhyping of this situation

Didn't think of that while I was posting. Probably could be better served by having it locked and people can just read it.

Education? what are you going to teach the potential hoons in drivers ed that will stop them being a selfish low life blight on society?
I think they all understand that drag racing, burnouts is dangerous but do it anyway for the thrill.
What about the 99% of the students that arent like the ^, they are going to have to sit through repetitive lessons with everyday someone telling them 'drag racing in the streets is dangerous and illegal'?

Yes, schools could address the problem. Other than watching videos these kids have nothing to do with their time, the next easiet thing for thrills is to get in a car.Perhaps schools could point the students in a direction so they have some meaningful and healthy way of spending their spare time, since their parents have typically failed in that department.

it's not all about "drag racing is illegal", it's also the practical part of it about learning how to drive properly, checking speed, mirrors.. at the moment the only REAL training that a lot of people get is from the instructor. because lets face it, my parents didn't really care all that much. as long as i could steer, merge, stop, go, didn't crash and a few other things they were happy.

in this case having Driver Ed in schools would then at least give the schoolies a chance to learn how to "Properly" (i say that lightly as people have different ideas on what that means) drive a car, and to respect the very thing that they drive.

we also definately need to show the graphical side of the consequences of stupidity, i think the Vic government or federal were looking at bringing in a driver ed "course" "program" what ever it is, that shows the carnage of accidents...

Ah yes, getting the hoons to check their mirrors before their drags will make them safer, but no one gets a licence without being able to check their mirrors anyway?

Lets just move country. We are becoming a police nation every single day. Soon you will have the EPA arresting you because of the toxic gas coming out of your ass when you fart.

The reason more people are breaking laws now days, Is that there are more rules to break.

hey its the same here in Christchurch, New Zealand. we have our main streets closed down most weekends because the "Boy Racers" are hooning around causing trouble. my street was lined with them 1 night doing burnout's and shit all up the street took the police 5 hours to turn up after i called them. they decide to smash cars sitting on the road side at night sometimes cars up drive ways. the holden dealership knows me well as ive been in most monday mornings since dec for parts. half of my car is brand new. its the same where ever you go in the world and nothing they do can stop them

here they have passed a law stating if your caught more than 3 times the police have the right to crush the car. but that aint stopped them. even after a bunch of them attacked a police car they did nothing
Here we are, doing sixty miles an hour in top gear and the engine is doing 1,500rpm… It's idling! You fat Aussie slacker!

i for one don't think these hoon laws have changed or will change 'hoons'. they're a completely different breed to 'enthusiasts', and in this humble keyboard tapper's opinion, they should monitor which dipsticks are permitted a license rather than what those dipsticks can get away with

you're pretty naive if you think that would work.

there should be more policing of the current laws

and P platers shouldn't be allowed to drive until they are on their opens

more policing hasn't worked. It never will. The root cause of all of it is from the people themselves. It comes from how they grow up and are educated...that's where the problem lies, and that is where it should be fixed from now on, since every other method has not worked. if anything it's got worse...statistics and reports will show that.

education won't work on the 5% of idiots that you referred to.
some people just can't be educated.

the only way they might learn is by losing their licenses or their cars
