Heyy everyone. I was wondering whats it like being an automotive spray painter? Im finishing school this year and also finishing a cert II in Telecommunications, so that can get me into an electrical trade but i believe my heart lies in the automotive industry.
Ive heard its not the best pay tho, what do you guys think?
Thanks for your opinion.![]()
pays shit, work with toxic paint and little tolerance for mistakes. other wise its alright electricals gonna earn more $$. The plus is you can work on your own cars![]()
Go the electricals mate
You should volunteer in both fields, to see what you like.
I wanted nothing more than to work at holdens, but after doing the Holdens School Project and working there for a month, i soon realised it wasn't the job for me.

Yea, everyones saying i should get into electrical but ive had a weeks work experience with them, and with my telecom traineeship i work along side them and i dont think it really does it for me. How about a mechanic?
No-one can tell you what you enjoy doing......
Like i said, volunteer (or work experience) somewhere in that field.
Whatever you do, make sure they don't just give you the shit tasks, like cleaning. Make it clear your there to learn the trade, you already know how to push a broom around![]()

your course gets you one type of work, telecomunictaions, and thats it. cat 5,6 or 3 systems, fiber, and coaxial.
im a electrician, im licenced to do all that above, aswell as a electrican licence. so dont be fooled into thinking you can walk into a electricians job, that wont happen.
get a apprenticeship, although out there in biloela there isnot much happening if i remember.
i am the god of britany spears womanizer on just dance on the wii
Ahh well when i last looked at the ACA rules you need a licence to run Cat 5e, 3, 6, fibre and CO axial dont you? Btw i never did state that i can go straight into a electricians job. I asked about apprentiships so i meant i could walk into an electrical apprentiship cosidering ive had previous experience. Sorry for the confusion...
I deliver to half a dozen panel beaters every day, and the spray painters / panel beaters seem to be the least satisfied with their jobs. The auto elecs never seem particularly happy either - but there is one small shed with a bloke who does electrical work for clients privately - he's the happiest of the lot. Chooses what he does, and quite enjoys it.

Ahk. Thanks for the input. What about a mechanical trade?
You say you are "an arty type" yes? Why not put your art skills to work and study Graphic Design?
As for an apprenticeship as a motor mechanic... sorry to say but I have my doubts for you on that one. Mainly because you said that Auto Electrical "didn't do it for you". I am not saying that you should not go for it, but if you didn't like the auto electrics, then you possibly wouldn't like the mechanical side of things either IMO
I meant General Electrician didnt do it for me, lol sorry mate.
I'm a 3rd year apprentice panel beater mate, and i gotta say i used to be really into cars before i decided to take up the job. Now i cant stand the bloody things haha. But i enjoy the work, its a great sense of accomplishment to see a totalled car, that youve worked on and helped fix up, drive out of the shop again looking great. Its up to you mate, do what you want and what you enjoy.
Let freedom ring with a shotgun blast
yeh im like that 5 years on, although not panel beating, but its starting to run a bit thin all Im doing is cars cars cars.I'm a 3rd year apprentice panel beater mate, and i gotta say i used to be really into cars before i decided to take up the job. Now i cant stand the bloody things haha.
Good to sit back and see a job well done, but thats about it. IMHO its the people I work with keeping me there, not the job itself anymore.
Cars all week at work, then all weekend doing the JCCC stuff, working on a project car, watching motorsportIts all my mates talk about, we go out for a few drinks and BANG cars, have you seen this, have you heard abou that. I cant even keep up with the new cars for the brands Im working with all week long, let alone everyone elses and their small power increase or different transmission designations
