Hey guys.. In particular, provisional license holders - what type of insurance do you have and how much does it cost you? My insurance, third party property and fire and theft just ran out and i'm driving my car as little as possible until I make a decision as to what i'm going to go with.
I was with Just Car insurance and paid around about 600 something a year for third party and fire and theft. I've come to realise that this year round, i'm not going to bother with fire and theft because my excesses equal up to about 1450, and thats enough to get me another car to keep me going!? The excesses were standard excess, vehicle excess and the whole female/age excess. Mind you I was paying 50 dollars less than the boys& my "vehicle excess" was carried over on the policy for my first car..
So for all you P platers out there:
Who are you insured with?
How much is your insurance per year?
Is it able to be paid monthly?
Cheers, Sab.
When I was on my Ps, I had my V6 Commodore insured through the Commonwealth Bank (they found a deal with Allianz for me) for $400 per year inc. fire and theft.
I got a quote from them to insure my V8 Statesman, and it was $420 I think.

my insurance is with SGIC, full comp. (with a very nice agreed value)
i think its around 900 a year
with all the mods done to the car they cover everything.
excess is 600
and this is for someone who has appealed there license and the car is a senator
Hmmm, Morton, how long ago were you a P plater cause that sounds like an awfully pretty price that doesn't exist these days? :-P and I've never heard of SGIC however I will look them up considering their comprehensive insurance is so cheap and i'm only after third party...
Anyone have any Just Car insurance horror stories?? Once upon a time my beloved was stolen. From what I told them they said it would be a write off, but they'd need to assess it first. Anyhow for me to lodge the claim i'd have to pay $1450 in excesses (which I think is f...d, esp if stolen!) to which they would pay me out the market value of a VN. Which isn't much. Either that, or they'd charge me my excess minus the market value for my car.
I looked into buying the car back from them also which was gonna cost me too much. So my wrecker replaced everything for $500 dollars. I now have a clean insurance history of no claims and also my car which now has a functional immobiliser and a home made kill switch :-)
when i was on my P's with that stato
was with justcars insurance
insured as third party fire n theft
was $800+ with all mod listed
but didnt really make a difference. if i was in an accident they would of just looked at my car and laughed and said somethin like 'you're on your own mate' and walk off.
im with RACV
900 a year or 80 monthly
dont know why i have it because i have to pay 1500 excess but i spose if i knock out a ve clubsport ill be happy to pay 1500 than 15000 lol
aami is the only company i am able to deal with for a price of under $2000 JUST FOR ME TO DRIVE THE CAR, not even insured in my name. i pay $800 or so for the monaro
Does that mean your driving uninsured?
In other words, no insurance and save the money so that if you stack or have your current car written off you can buy another one?
I'm insured through AAMI
My insurance is $500 per annum for full Third Party Fire and Theft on my VS, including all modifications (rims, suspension, stereo, LPG)
Yes it is able to be paid monthly but you pay up to 25% more per annum for the privilege of monthly payments.
my insurance is 535 a year, full comprehensive bone through my business package. insured the sv6 ute for 38000 plus 4000 worth of wheels, so 42000 total sum insured. i pay once a year, no monthly premiums or whatever. 18yo male driver with a my09.5 2009 ve sv6 manual ute with 20"hsv pentagon wheels.
excess is 6-700 or so i think, i didn't look into that too much and my plans and hopes are to never need to worry about it. oh yeah, and the company is CGU

Still have a green slip bro, I just went through the whole rego blah blah blah a few months back. This is my third party property.. And it means i'm not driving if I don't have to - not that i've hit another car ever, first trip i've done since it ran out was just tonight.. I just don't want to take the risk that I *may* hit another car and have to pay it off for the next ten years.
In other words, no insurance and save the money so that if you stack or have your current car written off you can buy another one?
Eh, nah. I'm going to get at least third party property so that other people are covered. As much as I love my car, and I really do, I can't afford comprehensive insurance. Maybe with my next car...

$500 dollars doesn't sound too bad, I was paying probably a hundred extra with Just Car. However the fire and theft was one hundred something - and am not going to bother with fire and theft as i'll have to pay fifteen hundge which could be put towards a newer, shiner car...
Damn all you youngens driving new shiny cars
A while back when I had a blown head gasket I was trying to apply for finance for a VT S Pack.. Car was about ten gees, and they would have made me get comprehensive on her, it would have been enough for me to buy ten more VN's... Maybe :P
So after that experience and being asked for a guarantor and having no family to ask... I'll stick with the VN..... Replacement parts are toooo cheap
insurance for my stock v6 series 2 calais =$2300 a year and 3 years later it still hasnt gone under $1000 for comprehensive.
And thats with budget direct. I would very gladly pay a couple extra hundred through to go with AAMI or RACV...
It might save you a couple hundred dollars, but DONT go with budget direct... They do doddgy work, and if you want to choose your own repairer, alot of places wont even touch you when they know youre with them... Strongly advise, whatever you do, dont go with them.
Fire and theft on top of third party is only an extra $80 per year, for the extra cover I think its worth it
haha driving shiny new cars. I worked for 3 months straight, 60 hours a week, saved every penny to get mine. Not like it just fell into my lap.![]()
I'm with SGIC. Market Value ($7000). Excess is $2400 because I upped it to drop my premium. Premium is $1743 paid monthly. P-Plater with clean record driving a 94 VR SS Manual.
No other insurers even came close to the deal SGIC gave me. In addition, SGIC don't care whats done to the car (don't have to list it), they don't classify my car usage as business because i don't trade under my own ABN (I'm a wine salesman, and this is unlike any other insurer - it is classified as business under everyone else and increases the premium by $800ish a year)
Premium: $1500
Excess: $3200
Just cars full comp, the only ones who would insure me for under 6 grand![]()
oh my god just cars are shit. but i suppose there isnt really an option for some people because they wont even touch some cars. Suncorp, racq, nrma wouldn't touch me with my xr8 but aami covered me for 1g a year fully comp with the mods done to it, which is the same price i was paying for my vz ute with only rims and stereo

Yeah Im looking at quotes at the moment for a VX SS II 6 Speed with a couple of mods. Noone will touch me except for RACV (with an astronomical price) or Just Car with a pretty decent price, just an astronomical excess.
when i called my insurance company (RACV) to tell them i'm doing a v8 conversion and will it cost extra to insure, they said no, that they didn't even care that i was doing it as long as it was done to vic roads standards and legal.
then again, i'm 26, so there might be some legal threshold i've reached for being a 'safe driver'
^^^ yea 25 is the age limit for high insurance prices (for aami at least) unless your a driver with less than 2yrs experience.

went with SGIO comprehensive, my excess is $600, but my premium is $1892 a year, 35% no claim bonus. This is me being only 22, and driving a 5.0L.
Overall im pretty happy.
If I went with just car insurance, I got a quote for $1400 a year comprehensive, but you have to pay the full 1400 in one hit, which I couldnt afford at the time.
Yea that would be the issue id say you having not had fully comp before. The premiums do go down fairly quick so thats a plus. They went down about 600 a year for me

Yeah well in 3 years time I will be an awesome driver so its not really an issueJust gotta bite the bullet.
I pay just under $500 a year for the ute for third party, fire and theft. Excess is 1200.
For comprehensive it was going to be 2200 a year + 1900 excess, and would only insure it for $4500, so I put the bullbar back on, thats my comprehensive insurance against damn Roos.
When I had insurance on the VK, it was 400 a year, 1200 excess. For comprehensive they wanted 1900 a year, and 1600 excess, but would only insure it for $900 lol, made absolutly no sense at all.
Im a Red P-plater, with perfect driving history and with RACV.
