What do you think about the new TAC ad?

I think theyve missed the mark... by a long shot

Theyve gone for the shock factor and forgotten about the message that theyre trying to send.

The guy smokes. Gets in the car. Drives for a little bit. Pulls over. Gets out. Gets hit by a passing car.

The ad makes me think about the dangers of J-walking rather than the dangers of driving on drugs.

They could have made the ad far more effective in my opinion, and I just think that it's going to be laughed at rather than taken seriously.

What do you guys reckon?

Lets try not to turn this into a shitstorm.. theres no need, this thread isnt intended to be drug users vs non-drug users... im asking for opinions on the ad.

what ever happened to "cannabis you dont know what it will do to you" what is it now "cannabis it gets you run the **** down"

government doesnt really have much chance, pretty much pushing shit up hill to encourage people to not take "drugs".
really need to step back and have a look at what they are trying to do, your not legally allowed to have any illicit durg in your system and drive, okay "system' weed hangs around in your tissue for a fair while, i know if i smoke a joint tonight its not going to be effecting me in 4 weeks time, also considering they cant test for all drugs its kinda pointless in someways.
theres a list as long as your arm or things you could be under the influence of and they arent going to be able to test for them

id like to think most people have enough sense to know if they should be behind the wheel or not...doesnt really seem the case though.

keeps me amused though.

Yeah I didnt know what it was about till the end, seems all they aim for is blood and then they flash some text up to explain what message they tried to get across.

They had another commercial on recently where a young woman was shown with blood on her face and she had just run someone over and it showed the car all smashed and the lady on the road and they pull out a bag of weed.

I think that was a TAC ad as well wasnt it? I'm not sure, but I thought that would be more effective.

Hard hitting ads are what they need, but they need to be relevant...

That TAC ad about speeding, with the pictures... thats a good ad

The latest though is a joke... It'll do nothing for the cause... especially considering the target audience

Its definitly got the shock factor, first time I saw it I missed the start walked into the room just as the guy gets out of the car, I don't really think it get the point across and dumb **** can walk out in front of a car, I think these ads are a little pointless, if you regularly drive whilst drunk/stoned you probably don't care anyway

ok, just watched it again... the thing that annoys me about it (one of many things actually)

is the guy pulls over to DO THE RIGHT THING AND LET SOMEONE ELSE DRIVE.. and thats when he gets hit by a passing driver who had nothing to do with drugs.... so.... if he had just kept driving, he would have probably made it back home safe and sound (according to how that ad was going) its just frustratingly confusing and stupid and such a waste...

a comment left on youtube made me laugh though... it said : TAC's messgae: "letting your girlfriend drive, you dont know what it'll do to you" LOLL ahhh credit goes to random youtube guy

Ha ok I actually just watched it for the 10th time tonight. Its the most stupid ad ever. Its more suited to "look before you cross the road" or some crap. The only way its linked with drugs is he was smoking something that resembled a joint at a party.

I think the message is clear. If you are pussy whipped and forced to leave a party because your whiny girl friend makes you, you are better off dead.

He probably stepped into the path of the car on purpose.

Nothing to do with drugs really.

I had the same thoughts , It made me think more of how driving on drugs isnt as bad as not looking when getting out of a car

Nah, this one's about karma... you do drugs and then decide to do the right thing, you're still gonna get f****d over for it.

But in all seriousness, the group of very well educated people who created this ad should go back to school. It's not going to be taken seriously by anyone, including people that do smoke, and the ones that don't.
It certainly hasn't given the message they wanted out.

This ad taught me 2 lessons.

1. If i smoke a Mary J and drive home, don't stop til im in the driveway there the odds of a passing car hitting me and taking the door off are significantly lowered.

2. If im driving down a 80 or 90 km road, and a 4wd pulls over randomly, ill now know to slow down and be cautious of the potential stoner that will get out of the car and wander onto the road.

More the point, when he was driving he waiting til the road was absolutely 100% clear, which was very safe so nothing wrong there. And while he was speeding up and slowing down erratically, thats no worse then the soccer mums i see on the way to work as they yell at their kids in the car.

Really the only stupid thing he did in the ad was listen to the girlfriend.

they need to make these drug ad's more realistic. like waiting for a pine cone to cross the road because you think its a hedgehog.
