hey guys... why is it thatwe pay more for 18, 19 or 20" tyres as opposed to 15 & 16"??...
like arent we getting less rubber in a 18 than a 15?..... or roughly the same
why are they so much more expensive??... are they harder to make etc..??
if you look it up 17s and 18s have crashed in price compared to 5 years ago anything above that is still pretty expensive but as demand get higher prices genarally go down as they can mass produce them ( just look at the price of 205/65/15s! )
We got rep back, yaaay!
its economics, supply and demand. How many cars are cruising around with 15/16" tyres as compared to 18/19/20"s. the more people put larger rims on their cars the cheaper the tyres will get, as there is more demand for them thus there needs be more supply.
slightly off topic..
but what would you guys expect to pay for a set of 20" tyres?
round about $310ish per tyre?
damo, that'd probly be a good middle of the road tyre... there is definately cheaper items, and definatley more expensive items.. what brand is it?
Its also got to do with the 'technology' of the newer tyres, its all new, takes time and money to develope, so they try and make their money back on them, so they rekon... personally I think its 'cause they can'
17"'s tyres are often cheaper than some 'popular' sizes in 16"
If ignorance is bliss why aren't there more happy people around ?
It's a combination of economies of scale (they make more 14/15/16" tyres, so they generally have a lower unit price), and the fact that historically owners of larger wheels 18/19/20 are often the same people willing to spend a bit more on their cars than the average Joe - so there's a bit of clever marketing there.
Now that cars are starting to roll out the factory with bigger and bigger wheels, I expect you'll start to see the prices go down more and more.

Lower profile Tyres tend to be performance orientated compared to a 15" stocko tyre, Which are normally made for comfort, 15" tyres and 14"s 13" have been around for many years, they have had the same basic mold for the last 40 Years, all they do is change the Tread Compound,
Speed never killed anyone. Suddenly becoming stationary, now that's what gets you...
Why is it that 15" light truck tyres are so cheap.
****ing tyre shops, giving hoons a cheap way out.
