Hi everyone,
I decided to buy myself the one thing I've wanted since I was a Kid...
Yesterday I picked up my Second hand CBR Fireblade.
Anyway, last night I went for a bit of a ride with a mate, and managed to find a spot to open it up... To my dissapointment, I found that anywhere near or above 9000rpm the clutch slips, and i'm not talking a little amount, it pulls extremely hard in any gear until it reach's that rpm, then pretty much free revs up to 12ishrpm... 1st time it did it, I thought i'd experienced wheel spin at speed, but shortly after it was obvious that it was the clutch...
Anyway, does anyone know whether this is a big problem, or could it just be the oil, or adjustment? I have no idea what oil is in it, but i will change it today...With what? anyone have a favorite?
Thanks in advance for any advice, it's much appreciated as I have NFI!!![]()
If I'm not pulling Toyota's out of the Bush, I'm pulling 12's in the Sig :-)
What year model blade is it? Check your adjustment on clutch lever, how far out does clutch actually bite? In bikes I've always used motul oil for anything but im sure other oils would be fine you should be able to get a hold of a manual for it if you want to check.
Thanx mate, Yeh the clutch bites right at the end of the throw of the lever, The Mornington bike shop I bought it from said everything had been checked and adjusted, so i thought that this was how it was supposed to be???? It's a 95 cbr900....
It came ON THE ROAD WITH rwc ETC, BUT DUE TO IT'S AGE NO WARRANTY...
I had a mate ride it before I bought it, as he knows bikes a lot more than me.... he never picked up the clutch slip as he rode locally for 5 mins.. :-(

A mate of mine has a 96blade and his got a new clutch before he got it clutch lever is in middle of its adjustment and it lets out halfway, rode my dads blackbird yesturday which has heathly as clutch and does the same i think your clutch is gone...
But dont stress check oil level first, even if you have to replace it, its not too hard im sure you and a mate could handle it, but price i dunno bout![]()
Yeh Cheers, I will pop over to the Bike shop today and see what they think?? well really, find out what they already know...lol..
I heard that this shop was great for buying s/h bikes from, and that the manager didn't deal in sh!theaps....so maybe it's something minor, otherwise I'll have to bargain with them...lol.

hopefully it's something minor, i've recently became a mechanic to not on bikes either lol. but my old man and a few of my mates love bikes so i pick up a fair bit mucking round with theirs. I'd say get the guys at the shop you got it from to give you an opinion on the clutch. hopefully its low oil, they are a wetpack clutch it'd explain why at high revs its slipping.... but so does burnt clutch lol
Well, I went to the bike shop,
They had a play, and took it for a ride, came back and in front of me, clicked the box in to top gear, rev it up, and full noised it.......It stalled..... :-)
No sign of clutch slip on the way home, but it is still grbbing out near the end on the lever... All seems good, checked the oil too and it is as clean as!!
Thanks for your advice, i'll put some pic's up as soon as J/C's lets me...wouldn't work this morn
Thanks again![]()

Good to hear it's all sorted mate... always a few teething problems with new toys.
Just one thing... you need to update your "My Ride" thing, pretty sure it's a touch out of date now mate...
Started having a look at bikes last night (you inspired me) and the missu caught me... went mental... withheld "special time" lol. So no bike for me...lol.
Laters!
Chrisso, did/or does Paul have any idea?
Best of luck with it.
dont worry, il start a ride thread soon.
Nah mate, Paul rode the Bike for me before I bought it and said it all good, he was who I was riding with last night, he was very surprised that it was doing it...
Seems OK now, but I'll take it for a good fang on the weekend....Hopefully all good...
Just one thing, The guys at Mornington Kawasaki are Great, offered to replace the whole clutch carrier etc if I have any more problems...all for free :-) now that's not bad considering I bought a bike with no warranty!!
Thanks guys for all your input...Yeh Raf, I'll update it now...lol...

Arthurs seat climb... if you get to the top of that and no burning clutch smell... your clutch is fine...
Pretty good of them to offer to fix it!
Sounds like the clutch was sticking or something... would also explain why it was only engaging at the last moment of the leaver motion... they probably just adjusted the leaver out a touch...
Anyway... good luck with it!
