After a 'heated' discussion with my brother about the custom bonnet i want 2 buy 4 my car...in fibreglass @ 1250, i was told i had 2 get steel @ 3,500! So am asking, apart from steel being stronger....any other differences?
Isn't the whole point of a fiberglass bonnet to reduce weight?
I have an inline 4!
Inline 4 on the left, inline 4 on the right.

im not sure it is illegal for fibreglass but carbon fibre is illegal because of the fac tthat they shatter to easy in a collision and can hurt/kill not only the driver but pedestrians and passengers etc if your in an aciident.
i dont know if its the same for fibreglass?
i always thought fibreglass was the same a carbon fibre, just from the way the fibreglass guy expalined it to me its quite similarim not sure it is illegal for fibreglass but carbon fibre is illegal because of the fac tthat they shatter to easy in a collision and can hurt/kill not only the driver but pedestrians and passengers etc if your in an aciident.

Thanks guys! So basically, its lighter (and cheaper), but is there more of a chance of it cracking/warping after a short amount of time, etc just from being in the weather? My bro says a steel bonnet would last 15 yrs.....hence the price difference i guess!!!
umm... they are illegal.....
why do you want a new bonnet?

Even without the legal side of things, fibre glass has a shocking finish looks like they had a blind person do it humps bumps, no straight lines!

Yes I know, if you get anymore manly you are in danger of making yourself pregnant!
My mate put a F/G kit and bonnet on his VS ute, he's not my mate anymore, enough said.
That said, from what I've heard you can actually get fiberglass bonnets that are road legal these days. They are made in some particular way, not sure how, but they are apparently road legal.
Still, Steel bonnet ftw!

pretty sure you are better off with a steel bonnet, fibreglass is mostly for drag cars, a mate of mine put one on and saved almost three tenths of a second. I dont think you really need one until you start pushing as s&*tload more power than a stock setup.
looks wise, they are pretty cool but i don't agree with this quote because EVERY car these days has a fiberglass front bar, rear bar and most have side skirts, i don't see any bumps.
Thanks 4 all the advice people!! Will definately go steel now![]()
