Hey guys, i'm new to this site and don't really know what im doing... but i was just wondering if any of you guys could give me an estimate on how much it would cost to import a 2010 V6 mustang from the states to melbourne or adelaide.
if not then do you know where i could find out?
any information would be very helpful as i have no idea whatsoever just want to get an idea.
cheers guys.
well first you would have to know where your buying it from n america east or west cost for example, once you know that you can call a shipping company and get a quote, altenatively you could enquire at one of the many importers already in australia

yeah no worries. couldnt i just get my left hand drive license which would make looking alot easier.
im not really too sure coz im still on my p's just trying to establish a price.
If youre in Victoria i would give Mustang Motorsport a call, they are in Ferntree Gully. They would be able to either point you into the right direction. Im pretty sure they also have a small number of cars for sale.
good point made by stocky youll need a right hand drive one, how much are you looking to spend? cant see it being cheap to have a car shipped international

im still saving at the moment but up to like 35ish maybe.. or i'll ask my parents for a years advancement on my 21st bday present. haha nah. well ive been looking on the website and a new car is around 27000 australian. so do you reckon all the costs involved with shipping all the tax and stamp duty and stuff will keep the total under 35?

Prolly not, import car tax is ****ing astronomical to prop up our car industry
hes only getting a V6 wont have power issues, probably cost more for an import maybe shannons would insure it, getting parts/service will be a bastard tooyou thought about everything else such as who on earth would insure a young person in a mustang?

its only 2009 =[
im guessing your getting it next year then lol
why is it so cheap, only 27000?
Hit the star under this post if it was any help to you =D
Probably add another 10k at least onto the new car price for right hand drive conversion and ADR's........
And probably another 10 for freight.
Definitely start calling some places that do it for a living and ask them about it. You could probably track it down yourself but you'd be on the phone a lot.
If I was on my P's and had that kind of money I definitely wouldn't be wasting it on a car thats for sure.
Firstly you need to find out whether it is allowed to be imported, there is a list of cars that are and are not allowed to be imported. Call the Mustang importers to find this out, or IronChef Imports from Adelaide. He may be in a different state but he works hard to ever increase the list of importable cars.
Then you have import tax, freight, the astronomical cost of a RHD conversion.
Unless you are absolutely dead set and prepared to spend 15 - 30 grand on top of the cost of the car then I'd look elsewhere.
From memory the duty on a car is 15% + gst of 10%. Then there is the (not so) small issue of getting it to comply with Australian ADR's and the LHD/RHD shit to think about. The new Camaro which is similarly priced in America is costing something close to $100k by the time you get it reg in Aus - and that is a car that was engineered here for possible Australian delivery!

Back in the 80's, one of my town's rich guys went to Germany and bought a brand new top of the line Mercedes. It had all opions fitted and was cheap compared to prices here. He had it imported over here and was peaved because it cost him a heap more with import duties and taxes. He could have bought the same car here in town for about $30,000 less. That was over 20 years ago now so prices for imports will have risen dramatically since then.
My personal opinion would be to save your money and see if you can get one locally. The only other way to get one for $27K would be to move to America
27k is still cheap for a new car.

Yeah but its not cheap if you can land it here and have it ready to go for rego.
From what people have said, that cost could probably double.
I just had a look on carsales and some bloke is selling a 2003 V6 Mustang and he wants $30k for it. Obviously trying to extract some portion of the overblown cost of getting one here.
A magazine I had detailed the steps required to bring the 2003 V8 Mustang up to aussie standards.
The cost and reworking of the car was huge - a large number of parts had to be binned and Tickford fabricated ones put in place. From external lights, to dashboard pieces, to exhausts. The list was huge, thats why it didn't last long as Ford Australia was loosing money on each car.
I've you want a Ford you should just buy a BA XR6-T, it'll be half the price and twice as good![]()
thanks for all your help and opinions. and btw cheboorator i've already got an 05 vz but i was just trying to decide on a mustang because to be honest i reckon they are some of the sickest looking cars going around...
oh and greenfoam i have a vic license so cant drive anything other than a v6 until im off my p's which is why i dont get a BA XR6-T. i was initially looking at just an xr6 but got a vz instead.
so i have to get it converted to RHD?? ive seen people driving around in gm cars that are left hand drive. i'll give vic roads a call and ask them.
for around 30 grand what would be the most recommended car to drive? im looking for a muscle car but dont want something that is ridiculously old
cheers.
