hey ive been reading Street Machine mag lately and nearly all the toranas in there have chev badges on them, why? is it just because the have a "chevy 350" in them"?
PS im not interested in starting the whole chev badges on commodores BS so dont even bother.

putting chev badges on toranas and HQ's has been happening for near on 30+ years its allways been the thing people do when they slot the old 350 chev into the old cars.

I have honestly never seen a torrie with a chev badge... or too many with badges at all for that matter...

ive noticed it on alot of HQ's and stuff too, Ive been checking out carsales etc to get ideas for my HJ one tonner and noticed quite a few have the chev badge and wondered myself. Mine will be wearing the original Holden badge with pride

I'd say before most of you guys were born 90% of the HQ-HZ's with a chev in it, had a chev badge on it. Toranas never really had chev transplants (rarely only) so you didn't see it with them. During the time between the end of the H series and the LS1 the 308/304 was all grown up and had got to the stage with the injected motor that it was better than the small block chev anyway so by the time the LS1 came around no one gave a crap about chevs anymore. So once people started sticking chev badges on ls1 commodores there was alot of anti chev going on. But the point in the first place was to say, this HQ/J/X/Z has a SBC in it, deal with that, because at that time chances were it was quicker than one with a Holden V8 in it. I see no point having a chev badge in a LS1 Commodore since that's the only motor you can get anyway, so it's pretty obvious

Come on man, Chevs only got scrapped because they don't fit well in early Commodores....There will still be more Chev powered HQ-HZ's out there than Holden V8 powered ones. The Holden V8 is a good engine, no doubt about that, but it will never be better than the SBC. I only put the injected 5 litre in my ute because i wanted injection, if it was a carby it would have a Chev, bit of a no brainer really....
Do agree with the LS1 powered Commodores with Chev badges though, its pretty rediculous. Although, i have no problems with a Chev badge on the grille of a HQ-HZ or Torana.![]()
Because as Greenfoam said, the HQ came out with both the Holden & Chev V8, so putting a Chev badge on it is just a little thing to let people know its got a Chev. With VT on commodores, it's only the LS1.....Also, back when the SBC was put in Holdens, it was a Chev, not a GM global V8 like the LS1.
I can object to what i like, when i like.![]()
