I love the sound of a nice exhaust.. But in Vic P-Plate laws says we're not able to drive a car with "an engine that has been modified to increase its performance".
Is there any way around this? I don't want an exhaust system to enhance power.. I just want to make my car sound better..
Punch a few holes in the muffler with a screwdriver.
Na, seriously as long as it isn't outrageously loud (and it's a v6 so you would want it as quiet as you car) you won't be hassled for an exhaust if you aren't drawing attention to yourself

do a search, and find all the 140,000 P plate law threads on this forum.
if you have a v6. a 2.5" wont do jack and you can have it, has a nice tone etc the extractors will do 2/5ths of **** all aswell in terms of overall power gain and i dont think you will have a problem at all.
i have a 2.75" on mine catback (stock headers) sounds great havent had any complaints yet.
I did a search and haven't found anything about how to make your exhaust sound better and still keep it legal.
I think I'll pass on the screw driver idea... haha.
I wanna keep my car as legal as I can so I was wondering if there was a way to be 100% sure that I wouldn't get pinned with a fine for driving a car with a performance mod.. especially as I can't afford the fine!
Is there anyway to prove that a 2.5" catback won't increase perfomance? Would an exhaust place be willing to write something up stating that it doesn't improve performance?
Im sorry but are people seriously this stupid. The law is NO performance modifications, there is no need to come on to a car forum and ask if you can have "just one", what part of NO, dont you understand, NO is not negotiable, NO does not mean "more then one", NO means ****ing NO.
Also as Hsvpunk said, SEARCH!!
wow tom.. chill the **** out mate. it's not the end of the world.. wow so what a new person is asking a question.. get your head out of your arse and stfu we dont need shit like that you tool.
holden_girl.
if your worried about it. go for 2.75" that actually decreases overall power as the engine loses a little back pressure. hence what i have done on mine (since i couldnt give a shit about how quick the thing will propel me into a wall or make me lose my license for the second time)
also i think it only has to do with serious mods. im sure you wont get picked up for an exhaust system.
Loose the p's then mod 'til your hearts content, best option![]()
Reasons like this is why I'm glad I was on the last rules on P's an I'm off mine in 2months...
I've had two 5ltrs & crazy 6 when I was on my P's lol.
A set of HM Headers + 2.5" Redback Catback exhaust = Cheap setup, Paint the headers in cheap shitty black paint an if cops pop the hood they'll look like shitty stock headers if you do a bad enough job ^_^ lmfao
Excuse a younger friend of mine has used was that his original headers cracked & his exhaust was rusted, This was the only replacement the exhaust place could provide.

Also if you seriously think we dont need advice like I was giving, where I was trying to make a point that she will be breaking the law by having a performance modification, but your advice blatently telling her its ok to break the law then I think you are on the wrong forum.
Tom calm down man! Sheesh! Also your sig is huge!

had you stopped at just the law is ....that would have been advice. but you continued to go on and say the rest. that's not advice mate, that's you having an anger problem.. you should seriously get it checked out.
as i said. it's only another thread. big deal. if it's a problem then go get a tissue from the tissue box and pm a mod to delete it or a post to delete / lock it. then a mod will delete it no hassels or lock it if they see fit, you just need to grow up.
I did search! How bout you search and try and find the answer, then get back to me with the link? Would be much appreciated. I've been searching all morning and haven't found my answer. Hence why I decided to post.
I am asking how to make my exhaust SOUND BETTER without increasing performance. I do not want performance mods. My engine has done 294xxx kms. No point in performance mods. I just wanna make my car sound nice while still keeping it legal.
Due to new laws in Vic I am on my P's til 2012. All I want is a nice car that looks good and sounds good. I couldn't care less about how fast it gets there.
Is there a way to have a nice sounding exhaust without having it classed as a performance mod?????
And thank you to the nice people who are actually trying to help me out.. not just getting cranky![]()
Oi kids, Don't start shit in the thread alright...
holden girl go read my post further up ^ It's been the only way to really get around it.

I see your point about wanting it to sound better, im on P's until 2012 aswell so I see the problems this law has, but its good points aswell. An exhaust will make bugger all differnece to performance of a stock engine, but the law says no. You would most likely get away with it as Philthy said, but its also a quick way to draw attention to yourself if you strike the wrong cop or the case of making an insurance claim.
Its not worth the hassle and possible implications it can cause just to have a nice sounding car.
Hozy - Sig fixed![]()
Thanks for that.![]()
just get sports exahast and tell cops if they hassle you that its a stock sports exahast my mate did that and they beleive him
and does that mean p platers cant have pod couse mine got pod and chip
