There are a few exercises you can do, but at the same time I wouldn't be trying to play basketball with out that ACL repaired.

I blew mine playing indoor cricket, and I found while I had the strength to walk and do general stuff playing sports was only going to cause more damage. How long ago did you tear it?

go see a physio, my dad just had a hip replacement and what he got told to do was the opposite of what he should have been doing. he is doing the right thing now.. incase you wondered.

get it from the professional. little safer that way hehe

Yeah, take good care of it, seek advice and get it fixed as soon as possible. You may be doing more damage which could make repair harder/impossible.

Stop running/ playing sports, take it easy. I'm not sure about exercises? It's torn after all.

Be careful that you're not staying TOO still in the first few days of injury, you're really prone to creating a blood clot in the early days of the injury and it can be fatal. A friend of my family died from that, I had one and the physio found it (felt like a bruise behind my knee - he told me to RUSH to the doc and ultrasound proved it, 6 mths of clexane injections to keep me safe).

It's serious stuff mate, make sure you're getting it looked at and if you feel that kind of bruise pain then go straight to a doc. (the friend of family was given a referral to ultrasound, he delayed it, the next day he died! it's THAT quick!).

Keep to your physio's regime post op... might seem bloody hard to find the time but if you dont then you'll pay for it for the rest of your life!

Spirits up too.. it'll get better after surgery!

but surley that couldnt fire you for having an op, cause lets say you didnt have the operation and you did more damage to it at work, they would be in the wrong then wouldnt they?

for an apprenticeship they give u a 3month trial
which means they will get rid of me if i get it done within that time frame it takes a good 8-10 just before you start walking normally and joggin etc again then it takes a good 4-6months of rehabilitation to get the knee up to where it used 2 be which it may work or not. not to fussed bout playn bball again as much as i want 2 not worth doing more damage just have 2 be careful what im doing.

You can do all the straightline stuff, cycling, running etc, nothing that needs change of direction (basketball is out )

Lots go without the op and just live with the instability, and now that you're a couple of months along then I can't see why it's going to make any difference to wait till the apprenticeship is over, I'm no professional at this though! (But it should help to know many choose to never have the op).

Although I can imagine how I feel like a contortionist when I work on removing the interior of my commodore, I can't imagine having to do that with one knee not taking any rotation.. hmmm.

    Hey Joey

I got mine fixed but about 5-6 years ago but I still have a lot of issues with it swelling up and restricting movement, I suspect my knee still needs more strength work. I would go to a physio, pay $70 and get the exercises that you could do to until you can get it operated on.

Basically I think the first one was tensioning the knee muscle and doing quarter squats.
