well ladies and gents I dropped out of uni so i can really focus on my playstation 3 career, just can't do both at the same time.....
ok so really. I didn't drop out because I can't hack it, or wasn't passing, but because I was unhappy. I looked into the future and really disliked the idea of sitting in an office, it just is not for me. everyone else knew it, just took a while longer to work it out for myself. im really stressed at the moment, not knowing how long it is going to take to find a job, hard times unfortunately.
so now im looking for either a electrical or plumbing apprenticeship. so I might as well give just commodores ago just in case some one is looking.
20 years old
I was studying information systems and business management.
hard worker, i work part time (40 hours a week) at a fruit shop lifting about 4 tonne of crap a day. I usually start at 6am so no stranger to early mornings.
happy to sell the monaro if a ute is needed.
kind regards johnny
My father recently retired from a office job, he says (6 months later) that he can barely remember a single day of it after 50 years there and most of the memories he has are from school and such. I think the same old same old is the problem. At least if your out talking to different people each day you will have something to remember from it
Im second year sparky and would recommend it. But unfortunately there isnt much work going on at moment. Not here in canberra anyway.
Australia. Love it or leave it
Yeah thats another reason i like my job. I never know what the day will bring. I just turn up to work, and get told to go do a job here, then a job there. I sometimes go to 4 different places a day and am always working at different places and with different people. I couldnt stand working in the same place day in, day out for my life. but thats just me

if all jobs paid the same amount of money, what job would you want?? the answer to that question is what you should be doing...good to see you stopped now instead of in 10 years time hating every day of work.
mate your right, theirs plenty of apprenticeships going atm. You should try plumbing as it really pays well. But as you said you were unhappy, do something that your interested in.
desk jobs can suck and sometimes its not always about the money.
I have mates who are on more then me (one is almost double my base pay plus bonus plus free lunch drinks plus nights out plus plus plus) but hey he has to wear a business shirt and tie and sit 13 floors up and in front of a computer for 8 hours.
I on the other hand wear a polo shirt, long pants (had been wearing boardshorts last summer) and sand shoes and spend as little time as needed in front of my computer, Im often wandering around the different workshops playing in cars, adjusting the radio station on the stereo system, or running up to maccas for ice creamPlay some backyard cricket or footy outside in a little park area just across the road at lunch or when its quiet or crack out the PSP and play some GTA or old school NFS
I cant buy as many things as my mates and sure when we pissup I have to sometimes go on the cheap and stick to JD or JB and coke and not buy 6 different shots in one hit as well, but hey Im having fun for my 8 hours a day at work and seeing as I spend more time awake there then I do at home I might as well be enjoying it![]()
mate, im doing a plumbing apprenticeship and its the business...ok the works not always the best, but i would hate being in a office all day, youre out and about, different jobs, different situations, its great.
they pay isnt good...1st years get 260, 2nd 370, 3rd 470 and 4th 600 (going by the sheet i got from my boss) but at the end of the day youre learning heaps too and by time youll get heaps of cashis going and me making much more
hey mate
u should really try to get in for a pre app in the your desired trade the 2nd semesters will have just kicked off and you might be able to squeeze in. apps are extremely hard to find for electrical i have done my 2nd year and got laid off 6 months ago and still have not found another one, i actually live in ringwood aswell you should drop into MEGT they help people get apprenticships so thats worth a shot, allthough i am signd with them and they told me last week that last year they put threw 70 sparky apps and this year they have only put threw 4 thats how rare they are at the moment. best of luck mate
Will also testify to electrical apprenticeships being very hard to come by at the moment. I recently finished my apprenticeship, seems like I scraped in just in time! But the company I work for has gone so quiet that they can't give me any more work at the moment. I've been on leave for about 8 weeks now... thankfully picked up work with some other guys and hoping they actually employ me now. But yes it is very hard to get any sort of electrical job at the moment. Here in Melbourne anyway!
thank god,
i was wondering how long it would take for someone to make a really witty not at all smartass comment that had something to do with my opening post......
to everyone one else, thanks for the well wishes. Yes i understand there is less money in trades (for now) be interesting to see what the future holds as just about all high paid desk jobs are taking cuts. like some of you have said, money is nothing if your not happy, and i was not happy. grobber, im looking into megt and pre app. cheers mate
life's like a box of chocolates dude, you just gotta go find something you like. If that don't turn out you gotta go find something else. how about building ? there must be plenty of work for builders up around Marysville
hmmmmmmmmm nah wood is not for me, i get frustrated when using it. cheers mate
It's not much better up here in NSW - the electrical mob i work with has been very quiet for 2 weeks now. They've actually had me out fixing leaking rooves, putting up fences, washing cars, and mowing lawns...
We were thinking about putting another apprentice on when year 12 finishes this year, but if it doesn't pick up soon we won't bother.
i was told that domestic was still ok, but commercial has suffered dramatically.
catch 22 with both....domestic you dont get payed as much but the variety of work is amazing...where as cammercial jobs you get payd heaps but its all the same stuff (im talking plumbing perspective here)
domestic is where it's died for us, commercial is keeping us going.
is domestic that bad? we seem to have plenty of jobs going on atm.....
