watch the wheel go slow forward and then use brake if the wheel moves then it the bearings other wise yes it is the other thing i cant remember wat it called
my gf's civic has been making a bit of a grinding noise lately, but it's not constant. it's an 01 hatch so front wheel drive.
basically you start off and when you get over ~10km/h it starts, other times it's started after braking. sometimes it goes away by itself, the other day i got it to go away by hard braking in a side street.
she's never had the brakes done and won't let me put new discs or pads on myself, so it could be that.
i also was worried it might be a bearing or one of those front end things that front wheel drive cars have (don't understand them that much)
it kind of sounds like metal on metal scraping, but i haven't noticed any lack of brake performance, or signs of brake drag.

sounds like a normal disk\pad wear ...
if not it the thing that rorate the front wheels , ( I have no idea what it's called in english )

take the wheel off and have a look at the brakes, assuming you know what your looking for look for any obvious faults, are the pads low? or down to steel? do the rotors have a lip on them? possibly the guard bit behind the rotor is bent and rubbing on the rotor(happened to a mate).

yeah cool, i'll take the wheel off tomorrow when she goes out.
seriously, i did my own pads and discs last time, and just swapped out my v6 booster/master cylinder for a 1" one, and she still won't let me look at brakes.
Remember to use an axel stand, saftey first![]()

Mate check the pads to see if they are worn out.
- check the disc's for scoring and grooves
- check for loose wheel bearings
- check all pads inner and outer may have sticking caliper and holding the brakes on a bit
- check slides of the calipers that they are not siezed
- disc's could be warped. ( do you gat pulseation through the pedal that will show a warped disc and also shimmy in the steering).
could be that the pads are low and they have squellers that give out noise and let you know that the pads are low.
not fixing the problem will only cause bigger problems as in loss of brakes and big $$$ to fix as more damaged parts.
