Default Clutch problems in my 4wd hilux

Lately i've had a problem where the clutch pedal wouldn't hold it pressure and the car was barely driveable and once every blue moon would not go into gear at at all. I've had my mechanic replace the clutch master cylinder +slave cylinder and bled the system. Now my car is very hard to get in gear and pretty much have to pump the pedal once to get it in gear. Sometimes it won't go into first and if i attempt to get it in reverse it will grind. Just wondering if anyone may have some idea as to what my problem may be. Only thing i've done clutch related it spray the pedal and linkage above in wd40 to get rid of a squeak if that helps. Car is a 1994 diesel 4wd hilux cheers guys

clutch plate is spinning, id suspect the pressure plate diaphram is rooted and not fully releasing the clutch

is the pedal height high and does it slip? although they pretty well have to be on steel to get a 2.8 hilux to slip a clutch hehe

no slippage at all actually. pedal height just not high just a normal height, it just seems to have a little bit of freeplay. just out of curiosity if it were to be what you said any ballpark figure of how much it may cost and what involved?

to me sounds like pressure plate,

so that involves new clutch kit, couple hundred there, machine flywheel (have to for warrenty on clutch) probably hundred max, new spigot bearing, couple dollars, then being 4wd, id give maybe 4.5-5 hours labor

You may just need to adjust the clutch free travel to enable the clutch to engage properly. If fter adjusting it you still have dramas getting it into gear, then you may have to replace the clutch. I am not sure of the cost of a new clutch for it; just ring around your car parts retailers and get a quote. Otherwise Take the car to a gearbox and clutch specialist for a quote to fix it. It would cost a little more but they will do the job a lot quicker than you could and you also have the added bonus of a warranty on the repair.
    Hope that helps...

generally once a hydraulic clutch is setup from factory you shouldnt touch it again, hilux's only have pedal height adjustment i believe, not free travel anyway

Not true my friend the adjustment on the pedal is the freetravel that you have before the hydralic side of it actuates the pressure plate if you have to little freeplay the clutch will slip and if to much it will not disengauge the clutch and hence not get gears.( which could be the case as he said if pumped once it works better which is giving more push on the cylinder as fluid dosent get to all come back).

mate i would adjust the pedal so it moves about 1/2 " before it goes harder ( ie. pushrod takes up in the master cylinder and starts to actuate the clutch) .

if your clutch is old maybe replace it and the freeplay will get more and more as the clutch wears( clutch plate gets thinner as it wears so fingers on pressure plate move inward hence more gap to returned position of throwout bearing to pressure plate fingers) .
    Cheers
