The 'what camera should I buy' has been done a few times already. Maybe a mod could merge this thread with one of the existing ones.

Canon EOS1000 Twin lens kit.
I have an EOS100 IS Twin Lens Kit.
Advert price is about 1200.
Go to a harvey norman or something and say you can get one from "insert competitor here" for 1099.
They will match. 1099 is a good price, i bought mine about 2 months ago, may even be a tiny bit cheaper now.
Good quality lens, good place to start off.
I used to work at a elec retailer as a uni student - Canon were always our top sellers and performers.
Second choice - Nikon d40X twinkit. similar price i think.
Best of luck.
JC.
Yep Either the 1000D or 450D.
The 450D is dropping in price, you should be able to pick it up for around $1200..
Eos 100D IS (image stabilised) Twin Lens Kit - I bought one 6 weeks ago $1099 from meyer.
They will do that price, just say good guys/harvey norman will do it for 1099 - they will match.
Used to work in retail - its all just a big game about who is willing to screw who the most really.
1099 is a good price, maybe even get a little cheaper now.
If you not want canon - Nikon D40X twin kit. - also good entry level camera.
from what i looked into and questions i asked, go with either canon or nikon.
i chose nikon but it comes down to personal preference and what your willing to spend
Chev badges are an instant fail
You say you want one with a zooming lens that you twist. Basically any zoom that isn't a Tokina should fit that description heh.
As people have said, entry-level Canon or Nikon cameras can be had for around $1,000 now with a lens or two. If you're just starting out, a twin lens kit may suit you well. Generally you get something like an 18-55, which is wide at 18mm, and 50mm is equivalent to human eyesight. The second lens is often something like a 70-250mm, your telephoto zoom for long shots.
If it's only a hobby it should be enough for you in most situations, but if you get more into it, you will begin to spend substantially more on lenses than you first though![]()
i bought the 450D a year ago and I'm really impressed with it. If that stretches your budget then go for the 1000D, there's not that much difference. The main thing being the on screen view finder on the 450, but it's very rare you'd use it.
thanks guys i ended up buying the nikon D5000 from jb hifi with the twin lens kit, one with th 18-55mm and then the one that goes up to 250mm for $1550, extended warranty, movie mode, 12.3MP, case mem card, 2filters..
my god its not cheap sht ay.
ive been reading heaps of mags n reviews n this seemed like a very decent bundle.
i can see myself easily gettin into landscape, wildlife+portrait photography.
which shud be awesome.
gotta keep reading n learning, man theres so much to know.
Be glad you're not fully into it yetSingle lenses can be worth far more than that whole bundle. I have one worth more, Minux would have more than I would, as would one or two others on here. First time I spent over $1,000 online, and from hong kong too >.>
You're right, there is a hell of a lot to learn. It's definitely worth it once you get into it though. I know a fair bit about it, it's putting it into practice in the right situation that catches me out
Have fun with it
