Red face job interview, would this be a good idea?

    Hey everybody,

well i have an interview for a store that will be opening next month.
since the store isn't open yet and surviving the phone interviews, i have to go to Airport West for the final interview next Friday with the area/district manager at the Airport West shopping center store. (in Victoria for those of you playing at home)

haven't been there for a while, so early next week i'll go to see where it is.
i was thinking of going to meet the person who's gonna interview me (i know his name).
    give a quick intro, eg,
"i'm Kris, you'll be interviewing me on Friday. i wasn't sure where this store was so i just popped in today so i wouldn't be searching on Friday"

would this be a good idea which will make me look determined or bad idea which will make me look desperate? or neither?

    cheers

Probably wouldn't do much. They have to pick a person suitable for the job based on experience and presentation (looks and personailty wise), in my opinion, it would look like you are sucking up.

Just go into the interview as professionally as possible. Speak properley, but don't look like you are stacking on an act. Looked relaxed, but professional. If you have what they are looking for, you have a good chance at getting the job.

mate you have a second interview so they are searusly considering you for the position.

they are not expecting you to turn up. if its come up in convosation as in

"did you have any trouble finding our store today?" no i came out two days ok so i was sure of when to go today.

all they expect is you to turn up on time at this stage, if you walk in and say what you suggested he may think you want the interview today, or anything you will be throwing a spanner into the works there mate.

i suggest fond the place plan your trip and play it like old mate said above..

    good luck

Apologies for the long post in advance,

Go out and visit but do not organise a meeting,it makes you look desperate and also "Wastes" the employers time, they have arranged a meeting for friday, going in early makes you seem a bit cocky and like you know better than them.

Also just a few suggestions from an employers side:

Do a bit of research about the company, with the internet it isn't hard but having a little info about the place (especially if its a chain) can go along way (as you have shown initiative).

Also I cannot stress look professional, I had a guy turn up in a shirt and well groomed for a "cook" (not chef) position, he had similar qualifications to the others but he put in the extra effort, made all the difference in the end.

Below are a list of the most commonly asked questions in a job interview, for most of these the answers are not just the important part but how quickly and professionally you provide the answers and of course how well you structure your reply.

Q: "So, tell me about yourself"
Q: "Why did you leave your last job?"
Q: "Why do you want to do this job / work for this company?"
Q: "What do you think you have to offer this company?"
Q: "What do you think this position involves?"
Q: "What do you know about the company?"
Q: "What do you believe are your key strengths?"
Q: "What do you believe are your weaknesses?"
Q: "What do you enjoy most about your current / last job?"
Q: "Where do you see yourself in five years time?"
Q: "Can you give me an example of your creativity / managerial / organisational skills?"
Q: "Do you work well under pressure?"
Q: "Why have you had so many jobs?"
Q: "Do you have any questions you would like to ask?"

Well, if it's in Airport West it wont be hard to find at all. Not a huge shopping centre, and i know it like the back of my hand. Be careful of the car spots though, they have got 3 hour limits, however if you park in the very back row of spots and reverse in then the council wont fine you, or if they do you can argue it. That comes straight from the words of ticket inspectors who check that carpark.

Q: "Do you have any questions you would like to ask?"

Fantastic advice!! Especially about doing research on the company, that also leaves you open to ask more questions about the company and it's workings and dealings ITSELF.

EG: "So you guys sell >insert product names<, "are you guys a wholesale, or direct to the public based company?", "I have used >insert product name< or had experience with it myself, i personally think it's a fantastic product".

Asking questions specifically about the companys products and inner workings shows you have taken the time to research the company and it's products and clientel base in your personal time, which shows you have put in effort and that you seem genuinely interested in the job, which is what they want, they won't want someone who is just there to work, get paid and piss off home each day. Any research done would only be of benefit to you.

And also the basics, make sure you are clean shaven and hair isn't ratty (but don't look OVERLY groomed, or you will just look weird ), clean respectable clothes (the job you are going for will determine the clothes you will want to wear to the interview. Eg: you wouldn't wear a suit to a warehouse picking and packing interview).

Even rehearse an interview with a friend or family member, get them to run off the questions TTRMC listed, and try to answer them without "umms" and "ahhhs" too much, try to have it down so you are ready to answer anything thrown at you with confidence, even in retail that is a good quality, as customers will throw all kinds of questions at you.

    Good luck!!

the job is at the video game store "GAME" (ah, video games, today's youths life blood)
i did all the research already, so i have a good idea of their history.
as for dressing up, i guess a nice royal blue polo is out of the question
most likely white shirt with khakis pants

once again, thanks for the info

In that case (the video game place), just wear respectable jeans and a polo shirt dude. Good luck with the interview!

If you are going for a job as a sales assistant, jeans are a bad idea. He won't be wearing jeans to work will he? You need to dress in attire similar to what you would wear to work. I can't recall the last time any salesperson in a shop had jeans on with the exception of clothing stores.

Technically when you reverse into the spots you havn't seen the signs in the Airport West Carpark. So they dont fine the cars reversed into the last row of traffic. Thats the loophole they explained to myself when i queried them when i saw them booking people and a mate also double checked another day when they were there.
