Default Vicroads rego price and payment

Well just got my rego bill today and up shes gone again now at $612.30, here in Vic only concession card holders, pensioners etc can pay by six monthly instalments, my beef is why the hell cant your average Joe pay twice yearly, quarterly, or even monthly, i have written to relevant parties about this but as you would expect, nothing doing. I know other states have this option so why cant we here in Vic have it too? I mean lets face it, rego bills are pretty heavy, breaking up the payments would be a big help for a lot of people.
I would like to know peoples thoughts on this topic, cheers all and have a good one.

I dont get the issue? You know when its due so you have 12 months notice, save $11 week and there wont be a problem? Same goes for pensioners etc, it is like rates, people know when they are due the same time every year, yet struggle to pay it, put a little aside each week and it wont be an issue.

people paying twice a year means twice as much paperwork and processing. theres no point in vicroads wanting to do it for everyone. just save the money each week. btw, i love my 6 month rego haha

That may be true minux, but i just dont see why other states can have diffrent payment methods but we here in vic cant? I know its only $11 a week but for some people they may have problems with that, for example lets say someone is saving $11 a week for 20 weeks, thats $220, you then get an unexpected bill, for same or similar amount, and its gone. Now say we can pay rego monthly, thats approximately $51, i think that would be much more manigable for a lot of people, thats just my thoughts.

I agree it should be an option for people if they want to do it that way.

if you aren't able to pay bills then owning a car probably isn't for you. I don't get what the difference will be - even if you paid one lot of 6 months then the same again later, the "unexpected bill" you speak of will still come.
    People need to budget better.
eg, we know rates are due in Sept here so we put $1000 aside for it. I know rego will be due in June so i make sure there's money there.... simple.

If you are a concession holder, on the dole or a pensioner, then you get the option of a 6 month rego. He's most likely a concession holder, since he's at uni!

More payment options usually cost you more in the long run, as companies are keen on adding on additional charges, sort of like interest on the money that they aren't getting paid in full.

I'm with vlv8vic, if one can't afford the rego then they can't afford to keep a car. $11 a week is sfa in the scheme of things, you would almost always pay more for the petrol to keep the damn thing running.

Rego and CTP up in QLD is currently about $645 for a 4cyl and $965 for a V8, thanks to that absolute farkin slappa of a premier Bligh.

Mine costs me around $400 or $450 a year and it's due in January after I have just finished seasonal work so I always have money for it.
And because I'm always living in the country when I it, according to a guy I asked at Vicroads I'm not being dodgy by saying I live there and getting the better rate

you can pay 6 monthly if you want but it costs extra
    i recently paid $648 rego on a 4 cylinder
if i had chosen to pay 6 monthly it's $340 another ripoff by the Qld government of more than $30 on people who could afford it the least.

it costs over $800 to register a 6 cylinder here

we probably deserve it for letting a woman run the state into the ground LOL

No one has slammed the guy..... mine was the closest but it was clearly general since the OP didn't specify that he was having trouble paying. Just a wee bit precious!!!

Since when do people living in the country get a better rate? We pay exactly the same as if we were to be living on Toorak road.

^^^AFAIK it gets cheaper in different areas. Put a postcode into vicroads website and see. 3280 (mine) seems to be cheaper than most places.

    Vicroads

nearly $100 difference between 3280 and 3000. And about 300km more 'country' for 3280.

Edit, tom, you'd pay the same as me. It's well less than metro.

Ahh so it is. I never noticed this when changing address' from Sale to Melbourne(Berwick).

Using the calculator, living in Toorak makes it nearly $100 more expensive, registration cost stays the same but "Transports Accident charge" and "Insurance duty" goes up.
