yes they were trying to do a job.... but how would you feel if it was your house we were trying to save and a bunch of precious truckies complained about it? or it was one of your relatives that we have to remove from a crushed vehicle and then having to deal with the mental anguish after?
I think you are missing the point.

I understand what you are saying but you are simply fobing off the fact that they also have a job to do. Surely you need to look at operating procedures if you have to block roads for 3-7hrs with no way to divert traffic.

most of the time traffic can be diverted but in some situatioss its just not possible, also around here we(the cfa) arent allowed to divert trafficwe can tell them to stop but if we tell the to go another way to and they have an accident they can sue us. we always wait for police to divert traffic

You've got to be kidding me, surely a traffic accident takes precedent over some whinging truck drives. Use a brain ffs.

Slightly off topic, but I'm all for dash mounted cams in emergency service vehicles - and 500 dollar fines for anyone that doesn't show enough initiative to get out of the way.

its pretty annoying when people dont get out of the way, its pretty hard to miss the red and blue flashing lights. some people are just stupid though

yeh but in NSW it doesnt take much to cripple a highway and put it out of action, every year when Kuringai goes up the F3 between Sydney and Newcastle is guaranteed to be closed at some point due to smoke or flames too close to the road which in turn affects transport between Sydney and Newcastle/Brisbane and beyond or the other way round.

Just a fact of life, it gets frustrating for both sides of the fence.

Pacific highway on the far north coast of NSW. Must have been closed at least 10times last year due to fatal accidents.

technically we can't either...... we are directed to "just block the highway" as our SOP.... but we can control the flow of traffic under the guidance of a ticketed person, like a council worker with a traffic control certificate. We have 2 of them in my brigade.
Usually in the interest of safety, if needed i get 2 of my guys on the lollipops to slow traffic and control the flow.

Some people do these things (Or get other people to do these things) for the insurance. I'm not implying this is the case in this matter, just saying it does happen.
