Yeah it sucks to think that there are those type of people out there in society. But they will always be there.
ok so im in the local fire brigade, were all volunteers.
we got a call out on saturday night to a house fire in town, so we got there and the house is gutted(were not first on scene) smoke pouring out of the roof, 10-15 fire trucks a couple of ambos and coppers all over the place i reckon there was probably 30-40 fireys there.
a couple of blokes had to get up on the roof with a demo saw and cut a hole to get some water in there.
then the B.A. blokes had to go in and put out whatever was left burning inside, and salvage anything that wasnt wrecked from the fire or smoke or water.
all the blokes put in a great effort, today i find out that the investigators think its deliberatly lit, this makes me pretty damn angry some ****er lit this house on fire just for kicks, why? its pretty senseless destroying someones house everything they own.
also while we were there putting out this fire wh had the roads blocked off, because of all the crew and trucks on the road, and some people have the nerve to abuse us for blocking the road, well excuse me ****WIT we're just trying to put out a burning house here.
think before you do something stupid people, and be fire aware

thats a job that takes some balls, good on ya, and the fact that most are volunteers, not many people do something for nothing these days, must be a few adrenaline junkies there.![]()

i've been seriously thinking of joining the vollies. but might wait till end of year as im moving back to sydney....
I'm considering joining the CFA, although Victoria's bushfires aren't going to get any better. They'll be getting worse as time goes on. I'll probably volunteer once I have finished uni. Do my bit for the community I think.
thats public service for ya, you try to do a nice thing, and you still cop crap for dick heads

alos why 10-15 fire trucks? the most we get here for a house fire is like 2 trucks and about 8 fires?
I don't know the exact details but basicly they send heaps incase it gets worse, fire can spread very quickly, also more often than not you need the crews more than equipments, and some people haven't got the right skills such as breathing apparatus training, we had the salvage truck there cos we needed the demo saw and the compresser truck to refill the oxgen tanks, also trucks only hold a couple of thousand litres of water you want back up to go get more or boost it

If it's like the ones near me they send everyone so they can all stand around and watch while patting each other on the back,
After the Victoria fires I'm surprised that there is people stupid enough to still burn stuff down. Hopefully they get waht's coming to them.

we have had a problem with a suburb in g-town with deliberate lit fires and people are still inside asleep in some that have burnt. i have utmost respect for fire fighters no matter if your a volunteer or not and respect for police, ambos, ses, just people who put their lives on the line to help others.
i understand pyro maniacs, but i don't get people who want you to move out of their way when you're trying to put the fire out.
reminds me of the tool i saw, at an intersection - ambo coming up from behind - i look around, LH slip lane is free so the ambo can pass through. guess what the tool does? yep, changes lanes to get the hole shot, blocking ambo.
how do these people negotiate life?
you get knobs everywhere...... we attended a house fire a while back where we had to close the highway because we had a hydrant line running across the road...... the highway was closed for about 3 hours. The truckies cried like babies because we held them up..... was even worse a couple of weeks back at a fatal MVA near here...... the highway was closed for about 7 hours while they sorted the mess out and got crime scene up to investigate it. We (us firies and the cops) were listening to them on the UHF... and you never heard so much stupid bleating and disrespect for a deceased person in your life (they could divert cars, but not trucks).... made me sick.

the one we attended had 3 trucks, us volunteers with 5 on board, 2 town vehicles with 6 on each...... had 2 70mm hydrant lines which could barely keep up the demand.... one ran across the highway, the other from a hydrant more than 100 metres down the road.
the end result being......
it was a BIGGGG weatherboard house..... 4 lines including a monitor on a 65mm line could do little to put it out.

yeah this fire was nly in a small 2 bedroom unit, ended pretty much the same way, except it didnt fall down cos it was brick, been to a few like this, one time a blokes shed burnt down he was a mechanic so his shed was full of fuels and oils an oxy acetylene set as well as the normal shed stuff like paints and thinners computers, heaps of plastics and metals. the shed fell in because it got so hot the metal supports got soft, all this was sparked buy a cheap air compressor that overheated.
our captain is also a fire investigator so i usually hear from him how and why the fires start.

dont think i know anyone around here thats moved up there. are his methods any different to yours? were a pretty small although possibly the best funded brigades. one tanker and one slip on. mostly rural stuff. but increasing amout of houses so its inevitable that we will see this kind of thing more often. we also have the esso gas and oil plants out here so if anything goes bang were first on scene, it happened once before(about 10 years ago). we get a few MVAs drink drivers and idiot tourists going round corners too fast, or that indonesian bloke who rolled his falcon on a nice straight bit of road. you see some pretty nasty stuff on the job but you still gotta do it.
