BLOODY IDIOTS
Hoons boast of
reckless driving
EXCLUSIVE: By CHRISTOPHER SALTER
29jun05
A CONTROVERSIAL Adelaide car club website that shows members doing burn-outs and bragging about their reckless driving acts has angered police and the State Government.
The Ragerz Commodore Klub website depicts young drivers defying traffic rules and placing themselves and other South Australian motorists in danger.
It contains pictures of members doing burn-outs and written evidence of such criminal acts as high-speed chases, vehicle crashes, assaults and drink-driving.
Transport Minister Patrick Conlon yesterday branded the site "one of the most stupid things I have ever seen".
He said the Government would meet police to stamp out the "stupidity. "Having read the contents of the website, I think we need to introduce a fine for people who are bloody idiots," he said. "It goes against every road safety message that our experts are trying to get across. We are trying to save lives and we get this stupidity in the public forum."
In one website entry, an RCK member bragged about clocking 160km/h in a 60km/h zone and being fined $512.
Another member had received 12 fines in the past three years for speeding, making unnecessary smoke/noise and running red lights, while another queried why he had not been fined despite causing a head-on accident in which his car was written off.
The website contains a section in which members advise on the best tyres for burn-outs and how to produce most smoke.
Inspector John Venditto, the officer in charge of traffic operations and investigations, described the group's actions as "irresponsible". He said some members faced having their vehicles impounded under anti-hoon legislation.
"Given our emphasis on road safety, this conduct is totally irresponsible," he said.
"The police have a number of statutory authorities that allow them to investigate this group, which includes confiscating their vehicles.
They can expect no leniency from police."
Many of the pictures and illegal activities featured on the website are from the club's monthly "cruise" events, which involve more than 200 cars.
Club members have continued to flout the law despite police attention and several cars being defected at recent rallies.
Victim Support Service chief executive Michael Dawson said websites containing such details should be "stamped out".
"There's no doubt in my mind that some idiots seem to treat their cars as an extension of their personalities and show off or become aggressive behind the wheel," he said.
"These types of people do not seem to realise that they have a potentially dangerous weapon in their hands which can and often does maim or kill other people or the drivers themselves."
RCK vice president Nathan, who refused to give his surname and listed his occupation as a burn-out instructor, said the five-year-old club tried to filter content on its website.
"Some of the stuff is legal," he said. "There's a few pics from burnout competitions." He said the club was working to become registered, which he hoped would ensure it worked with police to stamp out illegal activities.
The 20-year-old admitted it would be hard to change the club's hoon image. "Even when we go out driving, we still have that negative perception from people," he said.
The club, with more than 100 members, has planned a rally for Saturday.

Well this is a prime example of why we at justcommodores discourage and of those sort of threads. There has been a lot of arguements and debate over the controversial measures we have had to take but seeing as we are a much larger site, that could have easily been us getting the negative press. With my experience in this forum as well as many others its generally a minority of idiots bringing bad attention to the sites.
Just to prove that all the press out there isn't bad regarding cruises, Ive got a newspaper clipping from the recent red nose day charity cruise which I will find, scan and post up later today.

Cool thanks Julie, We tried to get media involved with our charity events but none of them wanted to know about any of them...

It is really sad that the media on your area doesn't want to help out to promote a good cause. Have you been trying the major papers or local papers? We didn't try the major papers, just a couple of our local papers and they were only to happy to run the stories, actually they ran a few lead up articles promoting the cruise. We also found it was good to get the support from local businesses.
Anyhow heres the article our local paper, The Hawkesbury Gazette ran for us.

we tried papers & tv. Today Tonight espesh because of their at the time recent "hoon" stories. But not one paper, tv, radio turned up We had the co-op of the local police thou which was fantastic!
Some of the media even said they would be there GGRRR thats worse!
but no I dont think they really want to know anything good. Unfortunetly RCK hasnt had a good rep ever & this is the nail in the coffin for RCK Im afraid.

Dannc:
I think the problem here is the content on the RCK forum. As your aware on JC if any thread pops up with people bragging about burnouts/speeding/wreckless driving etc, the thread is deleted as 'hoon' behaviour is not tolerated or promoted. We aim to promote safe driving practices.
Sadly as the report points out in the paper today, the RCK forum does have posts highlighting and it would seem supporting illegal activities. I am aware of the efforts of the members of RCK to clean up the club image when cruising, but you have to agree surely that if you can jump on the forum and read posts and view pictures of 'hoon' behaviour, then it would seem to the reader that this behaviour is tolerated by the club, as the moderators and admins obviously allow those threads.
When the decision was made a while back to stop the idiots from attending the cruises, this should have been carried over to the forum and any posts started that went against the principles of the club ethics, deleted and the poster warned.
I must say in defense of RCK the report was over dramatised somewhat. I understand the last cruise was trouble free, with good behaviour all round. Then the paper today announces RCK have a rally on this Saturday. PLEASE! It's a bloody cruise, not a rally.

The illegal activities they were talking about, saying members bragged about drinking and high speed chases is crap.
The thread was actually talking about how much of a ******** that guy was, and how he's not wlecome anywhere near the club.
Don't belive everything you read on a forum either, on another forum, i'm a 17yo brazillian Female and curious.......
