Default Where to go for a holiday "Overseas"

Just was talking to my mate last night and he just came back from 10 days in NZ and noticed some other friends have been to places like France and all over the joint.

So just wondering for an 18turning19 soonish aged citizen, where would be a great place to spend 10 days to two weeks on a holiday.

id have to say thailand i spent 12 days there best 12 days ever , the locals are so nice , beaches are perfect , the food is awesome , cheap shopping , i took over nothing and bought back 28 kilos of luggage with me . im heading back in novemember 2010 if you want to have fun go there its a lot safer than bali and cheaper than fiji and all the islands out that way .

i went in the middle of november it was great , sunshine all day every day chilling by the pool or at the pool bar . we stayed at patong beach down in phuket , plenty to do , elephant rides , gun range , zoo , boat rides out to the islands snorkelling , the cobra show (any one who goes must see this ) plenty of market stalls for all your counterfiet needs . most places have breakfast included and all major hotels motels are rite near the beach and transport . We also spent a couple nights in bangkok shopping like crazy at the markets and we spent a day lost at MBK a giant shopping center then we went to tiger temple . basicialy what im saying is there is so much to do and its so nice over there . GO FOR IT

Iraq............ go to a tropical island pack heaps of spirits and beer and a life time of franga's (condoms are expensive on remote islands). if you go by boat and they have a no alcohol policy just wrap each bottle in clothes or towels so they cant hear them clinging and clacking together.

Avoid 3rd world countries... why anyone would want to go to Bali or Thailand is beyond me.. Try Hawaii or the US mainland ? Canada is nice this time of year also the Greek islands... Vanuatu is also nice..

Or stay in OZ and hit Hamilton island area ?

Depends on your budget at the end of the day.

Amen to that. Doesn't matter where you go, the Aussie dollar is only worth half what it is here and things are three times dearer.

I suggest Europe.. it's awesome.. so much to see and do.
Like another member mentioned it's rather expensive.
I've been to europe numerous times due to the fact I got family in Germany.

It really depends on what you are looking for in a holiday...
Are you into sightseeing? I really liked Rome, there's so much history and ye it was really good. I'm not a sightseeing person, I actually quite hate it, but the gf always wants to see everything.

I've been to Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Austria.. I think that's it in Europe lol. I've also been to England and Bali.

No offence to anyone but I can't stand Bali, worst time ever! I didn't go peak time but there was so many people there and (once again no offence) I can't stand the bali people. They are really friendly and everything but you can't have a peaceful work ANYWHERE! O yeah I was in Kuta or whatever it is called .. the main place. You gotta look at the floor when your walking... if you look at anything someone will see you and then they start hassling you. They are very touchy aswell ... always try to grab you by the hand and lead you into their shop etc. Also, they will always try to make you a deal ... 'morning price' etc.. lol and when you go back later it's the same price! and they remember you aswell, don't tell them your name or whenever they see you they call your name out etc.
But my girlfriend loves it there... cheap clothes etc... (cheap clothes thats true but its also poor quality clothes), DVD's are cheap aswell ... I spent most of my days in DVD shops lol... only place you could browse and they don't try to sell you stuff or anything... even though a lot of the DVDs are bad quality.

You can't even walk the beach without ppl annoying you!!! they try selling you watches etc and a place to sit on their chairs

Beer is cheap though, at my hotel I got $1 milkshakes like every morning lol. Hotels are really good because they are like slaves aye... anything you don't like in your room ... tv not working or anything and they will really go out of their way to get you a replacement one etc.

I did a beginners surf course there... It was really good.. like I said they are really friendly unless they are trying to sell stuff.

Hope this rant hasn't made you change your mind or anything about Bali etc.

Europe is really nice... especially in winter with the snow, go up to the mountains and it's beautiful. Really good food too.

Germany (Berlin = not nice, only history. Munich nice but busy. Stuttgart (home city)), Switzerland (Bern), Austria (Vienna) are all very similiar, the culture and everything is pretty much the same. Germany has the october fest which starts soon.

England ... well they are poms you know... lots of people.. has history aswell.. quite a bit too see. expensive as hell! had much more expectations than what was actually there. I was in London (hectic place to get around) and also just out of London (quite peaceful, relaxing). Went to Ministry of Sound nightclub ... wasn't that great... quite small actually and was hard to find!! could only hear the bass but couldn't see it ... walked up and down the road and finally found it down a side street lol

Italy was great.. theres lots too see in Rome. People are quite nice, we went to the same restaurant so many times, nice food. quite dirty though... lots of cats theres night walks and stuff, the fountains for romance. around the colossium there was few people selling stuff but they don't hassle you, people dress up as guards and take pictures and then ask for money.

Well I hope that has given you some information. Others may disagree with me but that's my view and experiences.

Hmm very informative, some where relaxing seems like the place to go.

Probably still go to bali sometime in mah life and with places like berlin not quite sure, I need excitement and all that pops up is darkness and snow lol.

    Cheers

For now I'm off to Canberra for a weekend in a couple of weeks lol

Buggy ride for sure! We are going to do the one that takes you to the turtle sanctuary so we can hold baby green sea turtles. Also parasailing is on the cards and a day trip of Mt Yasur

    Thailand
New Zealand (crap loads of awesome stuff, like bungee jumping, white water rafting, all the 'extreme sports')
    Bali
    Europe (contiki tour!)

Places like fiji and such are good, but best left till a bit later in life.
