Students and parents at two Queensland schools are being counselled after their popular chaplain and his wife were killed in a road accident on the Sunshine Coast.
Sippy Downs couple Allan Taylor, 56, and Kari Taylor, 51, had been called to assist their daughter Ashleah after her car broke down at around 4pm (AEST) on Wednesday on the Sunshine Coast.
They parked in a break-down lane beside the busy Sunshine Motorway and were standing behind their vehicle waiting to cross the highway when they were struck by a four-wheel drive driven by a man in his 70s.
Their daughter witnessed the accident and was taken to hospital where she was treated for shock.
Coordinator of school chaplaincies on the Sunshine Coast, Kerry Evans, said the whole community was shocked at the deaths of Mr Taylor, chaplain at Woombye and Palmwoods state schools and Mrs Taylor, who ran dance classes.
"Allan and Kari were greatly loved by all aspects of the community, not just the school community or the church community, but the whole community," Mr Evans said.
"They were a lovable couple and they loved God and they loved people and the community in which they worked and they would do anything for other people - such a fun-loving couple."
Mr Evans said the ripples of loss would be international.
"One of the places is Cambodia where they've gone to help underprivileged communities and children," he said.
"They'll be greatly missed by people from all walks of life."
The couple leave behind their daughter, 22, and a son, 14.
The driver of the four-wheel drive was transported to hospital with minor injuries.

just another simple reason that older people should have their eyesight checked and hazard perception tests done on a regular basis.
people over 60 regardless of previous driving history wether good or bad should be required to go under compulsory testing once a year for eye sight and once every two years for hazard perception tests
just my thoughts, and just before someone comes along and says that it'll cost too much to do that.
Driving is a privellage NOT a right. if you want the privellage you need to prove that you're safe enough to have it.
This only proves all drivers should tested yearly....

There is specific issues with a lot of age brackets and this could add to the argument that everyone is not equal and people in special situations or parts of there life should be treated differently to others OLD or YOUNG!
But you need to let justice take it's course and see what all the factors are.

Yeah... not a great example for the "older people should be tested" argument.
A good arguement for the "Alot of people who can't drive somehow have licenses" arguement though.
And I do agree with your last comment. People think that driving is their right, which is not the case. Some people simply can't drive. I can't ride a unicycle, I understand the theory behind it but I can't do it. Thus the reason I wouldn't be allowed to join a circus as a unicycle clown. But somehow people who can't drive are allowed to drive on public roads.
Also alot of people who are not interested in driving or cars are allowed to drive. I don't understand how someone can be good at something if they are not interested in it. Good enough to be in a position where their driving skills could influence if someone lives or dies on the roads.
More training, more testing, harsher penalties are needed in my opinion and some people should simply not be allowed to drive, because they incapable of the task.
Yeah I would say its more an argument for regular testing, not only that testing in cars that you are likely to drive. A lot of people are driving 4wds now, I wonder how many of them got their license in one.
Like most others, i'm not sure how age is a factor here. As usual we don't know all the facts and are happy to point the finger.
How would testing people every year over come things such as driving without concentration, driving tired, drink driving, talking on a phone.... basically anything that would distract you from keeping your eyes on the road?

Well I know personally Ive let bad habits develop since Ive done my test. Regular testing would if nothing else help keep those bad habits at bay.
I agree, but it still wouldn't over come those once off occurrences that cause a lapse in concentration that have a deadly outcome
Edit: which may or may not be attributed to this crash..

I did.
From L's through to unrestricted.
Also done a advanced 2 day 4WD training course, and one of the things they tell you is your steering automatically tends to follow your eyesight, hence the reason everyone tells you to keep your eyes further ahead on the road.
This is probably what happened to this guy, he was too busy gawking at the side of the road and swerved into them.
The car in question is not the issue here.
done my perception test 3 times 75 bucks latter i just passed, that is the most bullshit test ever, well the one in sa anyways, you cant see the people properly because its too badly distorted. ahh well as long as im a sensible 18yo i will never have to resit that test
thus why I agree for yearly testing too.i will never have to resit that test
Hey our cars have to be checked yearly after their 5 years old, why not our driving style? Our car is only as safe as the person driving it
ah... i forgot that all important word it seems!

Purchase a hazard-warning triangle for your car to improve the warning given to approaching traffic at both crash scenes and vehicle breakdowns. Keep it in the boot.
