This has prob been posted a zillion times but can't seem to find any definitive answers, where can I buy an Ex-Cop commie in either Sydney or Canberra? Ive found a couple of government cars sites, but none identify that they are ex-cop or identify any of the mods typical to one.. So if anyone can help me out it wud b great.

Down here in vic they sometimes pop up in random car yards but i think most times auctions is the place to find them.
"The mind is its own place, and in itself, can make a Heaven of Hell, a Hell of Heaven."
apparently wasting my time with 97 cubic inches
milk doesnt come in 1.6 litres
my geminis
fowles in morebank sell/auction government cars. i went there last weekend and theres was lots of ex cop cars. vz and ve ss etc
why the **** would you want one, they are all thrashed to shit, not properly maintained and will only cost you a shit load of money down the track. like mine did.......
i want to know also...
why do you honestly want one???.... they'e thrashed from cold, have high K's, driven hard as ****, and not respected...
just wondering why you want to buy one?
on another note, in my town all the highway patrol SS's have been upgraded to the new AFM models.... i saw 4 VE SS's sitting in the cop station carpark/lockup all with the sticker outlines (they'd just been peeled off or something, you could see the outlines of where the stickers used to be
yup only reason i ended up with mine was my own lack of buying car knowledge, was my 2nd car, i bought it sight unseen from interstate, the dealer assured me that if i wasnt happy with how it drove or something mechanical i would get my deposit back etc so was happy with sale, however when i looked through the book to check service history i didnt happen to look at the previous owner, didnt know it was an ex copper untill a week later or soeven tho the body and interior is basically immac underneath is a different story
back in the day i thought they were the bee's knees too saw some mint ones in Adelaide, but when i saw a couple coppers jump the medium strip at a decent speed n cain it out of glenelg i thought u'd be mad to buy one, the cars wellbeing comes second when enforcing the law. i just dont want one.
its not about buying a lemon, its about knowingly buying a car that u know has been thrashed. same thing as buying a hoons car, watching a n00b ripping burnouts n redlining it from engine start n see the for sale sticker on the back n saying, im going to buy that car.
u just wouldnt
to everyone with the negative comments I only have this to say
150 000 kays plus on my ex nsw police and its stil going strong. Only regular servicing and a steering pipe hose clamp (that stupid recall all VZs copped). Thats all ive done.
Its done a track day back in January in mid to high 30 degree temps where I was thrashing it all day long, and a few drag strip runs, as well as the usual sydney peak hour stop start stop start 5 days a week.
Its unfair to say their all like that, especially when I have an example of one thats not and in 150 000 kays hasnt broken.
sure theres bad examples but sometimes people forget theres also good examples. Like saying stay away from fleet cars for the same reasons, not always true.
again.. Would u knowingly purchase a car that u have seen thrashed and not loved? i doubt it.
so just because u dont see it happen it hasnt? i doubt they would swap bushes over that look fine but are half screwed from jumping gutters n stuff.. the car has been aged prematurely because of the abuse its lived though, simple.
yes there are some cars that havent had as much, but u will never know
umm but I did just that bought a car that could have potentially been kerb hopping thrashed from cold and whatever else has been said ...
did u seek out an ex-police car or did u just buy one and it turned out to be? i hope it doesnt give u grief, wouldnt wish that upon anyone.
but if u specifically seeked out an ex-police car, the question is.. WHY? Whats the appeal?
All he's saying is that the majority of ex-cop cars are more likely to be thrashed than normal cars. not that all cop cars get thrashed or that they've all had the shit thrashed out of them, but on the whole would have been treated a little more badly than consumer cars.
Its not a swipe at your personal car saying its had the shit thrashed out of it. You may have got the 1 in 50 that was never used for pursuit or things like that, it may have been an inspectors car that he just drove from station to station with, who knows?? either way you got lucky man![]()
hey mate,
when I found it
- it was shiny
- it sat / looked nice
- it was the right price
- it still had factory warranty
I checked the glovebox, it has Owner - NSW Police Force and so on and so forth.
I was actually on the look out for an SV6 and never considered anything below.
What Im saying is yes, I agree, there are those that are thrashed big time and become the worlds biggest lemon and yes, I too would hate for people to get stuck with them, but I read several times a year people saying that their all like that when I have a classic example of one thats completely opposite, and actually has has NO issues compared to mums Lumina that weve owned since brand new and babied like theres no tomorrow.
People seek these cars for many reasons, yes the magical cop chip that doesnt exist, the supposid fact they go faster then any car in the world, but theres also people who are after a bargain and it can be found. Mine was just one of those things when I was looking something attracted me to the car, and as I said, Ive had more luck with that then mum has with a car we've owned since new.
Yeah I agree with some of the posts here, and suggest looking at ex-branch (detectives) cars as they probably don't get used as much...![]()
The only other thing that I would have against buying an ex-police car is whats happened in the backseat. I have pulled out enough guys covered in blood, vomit and any other sh*t that you can think of, and its a bugger to get completely clean.
thanks mate, exactly what i was trying to get at
Im glad its been a beauty, thats what everyone wants a car thats reliable. wasnt digging at your car at all
My problem thou with the attraction is if its cheap now, later on how much will it cost? me personally would rather pay the lil extra to ensure its had a better life, but like everything, there are lemons as u've said with ur mums car.
never thought about the backseat n what could have been back there lol..
still more cons than pros on the ex-police vehicles..
i think its best just to agree its each to their own, like any car theres pros and theres cons, thats what i was trying to get at just didnt use those terms![]()
people either love or hate these things, ive had an x-pig before and it did have a few thrash related mechanical problems prematuraly but it wasent the worse car ive had
As an example, I was in a high speed police chase in my car i got air born as i came outta a spoon drain and the cop wasn't going all that much slower than me and i broke every rubber on my exhaust and a few other lil bits, my car was extremely low which didn't help but if i new it did my car damage the cop car would have copped a bit too i was flat out around corners so was he so on so on, so i have experienced first hand what they have to go through on there daily dutys,
I don't think i would ever by one
Speed never killed anyone. Suddenly becoming stationary, now that's what gets you...
