Hi all.
Im moving to Plainland Queensland from Ballan Victoria in two weeks.
1,664 km Travel Inland.
I want to be as prepared as possible for the 20+ hour journey.
So far I will need...
Spare tyre x2?
Spare radiator hoses x2
Jerry Can of fuel.
Tools, spanners, screwdrivers ect...
Electrical tape.
Toilet paper.
Porn. (I have a dvd player lol)
Is there anything else you could recommend to make the journey safe & reliable?
Apart from the basics like clothes, toiletries ect...
I will be stopping every 6 hours or so to sleep 4-6 hours. So this journey may take a few days.
Honestly it isnt too bad of a drive, i drove the whole way myself over 2 days, if you go up the Newell Highway, theres a town to stop at every 100k's of so for a stop / fuel etc.
I left at 7am Sunday and got to the gold coast like 5pm monday. Stopped at Dubbo to sleep at night :-)
Sweet as mate.
Was there many roo sightings? Crap on the road?
The main two things im worried about are roos and tyre schrapnal
Lots of music mate, Maybe a spare battery??? Coolant, Oil, maybe think about one of them car bras for the trip(for bugs and rocks from trucks and other stuff. Duct tape, assortment of screws nuts bolts.
Best way is to make a list and as you think of stuff add to it. Are you travelling alone??
Cheers man
Yeah I'll be travelling alone which reminds me i will need credit on the mobile lol
All stuff mentioned in here I will write down. Coolant and oil are a must too.
Lots of dead roo's only spotted one live one myself, came over a hill and a roos in the middle of my lane with a truck on the other side at 5am ... scared the shit out of me, Woke me up too :P
Didn't see any during the day just watch out for hoon road trains, some of them bastards are psycho, had one overtake me doing at least 130 clicks over a blind crest .... *shudders*
you can pull in here at gilgandra ozzie if you need to do any repairs or just have a yarn.
cheers shane

I'd leave the porn, you'll give yourself a clublock and that's not good when you're trying to steer.
ozzie, thats gunna take more then 20 hours, u havnt said anything bout a car so im assuming your walking, and if ur walking with 2 spare tires well ****, good luck :P
nah just basic shit, 2 tires like u said water for the radiator. duct tape maybe some quick fix radiator leakage stuff?
good luck, let me know when your up here ill come shake ya hand n kick u in the nuts or something. you staying or just visiting?
Seems like overkill to me...
Driven to bris around 10 times, never taken more than clothes, snacks and spare tyre. You dont need all that extra shit...
As for timing, you can do it in about 17 hours keep a UHF in the car and your laughing.

Agree with minux.
Its not like you are driving in the middle of the outback.
Done plenty of drives like this, and a lot of small towns do have a small NRMA/RACQ mechanic in case your car starts falling apart.
I use to drive through Plainland when I was going to uni (many many many years ago), blink and you miss it...
Get your car checked over by a mechanic before you leave if you're that worried. But I'd make sure your spare was good, throw in your tools and some water/coolant. Don't let you're petrol tank drop below half and you'll be right.
To avoid Roo's don't drive at dawn or dusk. It's been awhile since I've driven the Newell, but its a pretty good road, tones of trucks, which can be good and bad.
Take it easy and take your time.

"No, I'm not a pessimist. At some point the world shits on everybody. Pretending it ain't shit makes you an idiot, not an optimist."
The drives pretty staright forward, u should do it in 2 full days, but if you tend to fatigue easy or what not use an extra ngiht but u dont need to sleep every 6 hours i dont think, i stopped every few hours for half an hour, to have something to eat and then your refreshed and ready for another stint. I just had a spare tyre and thats all for me, your biggest fear is those trucks, especially late at night they are literally all over the road, so take it easy.
its 1660km not 166000km.
get in the car and do it already.
True.
The car usually does around 1000k's every second weekend but has never been driven for so many streight hours, Just dont know what to expect lol.
expect boredom
plainlands, why plainlands, all thats out there is a woolworths super market, a pub and a over pass. been pretty dry out there lately.

Sticking a Chev badge on any Commodore is like putting a Nissan badge on a VL
EOI....VE SS 18" wheels x4 with 5000k's on new tread, 2 of have very minimal gutter rash (previous owner) otherwise like new send me a pm if interested.
WTF is wrong with you??? Leave at around 3:00pm from Melbourne and you will be in Bris around 8:00 am sitting on the speed limit. How unreliable is your car??? I have done this trip a shitload of times and have never taken anything more than my spare!
Fill up as you head out of Melb, next stop will be somewhere near Parkes (maybe a bit before), stop again around Mooree or Goondawindi and that should get you to Bris. Take it easy going thru the gap and also anywhere near Warwick (don't say you weren't warned)
Reaper
.
lol just custom fit a 400L fuel delivery system to your boot to autofill your tank and keep your foot flat to the ground
had a mate who did the Melbourne to Brisbane run in 11.5 hours, but he was driving a V12 Jag
Dont forget to gun to keep crazy queenslanders away from you once you get there.
