If they can take your photo with a fixed camera and send you an infringement notice, why not from a video recording?

Well long story short. An idiot in an Audi TT cut me off then proceeded to speed off at insane speeds (180kmh estimate) I continued to drive at the speed limit till he slowed down quite a bit. I speed up a little to try and get his number plate then next thing i had a car screaming up behind me which i knew immediately was a unmarked Patrol car. I slowed down and indictaed to the left and puled over before he even had a chance to flash his lights or siren ect. He came up beside me then put his lights on and speed off.

because the video does not have the speed sensing equiptment that is linked up to the speed of the cop. it has to have radar on the video camera which they dont as they are really expenceve

I dont think you have a problem, sounds like he was going after the Audi or had something else to rush too

Breaking the speed limit to get the number plates of another speeder is still illegal.
The Police car being behind you, can get a reading of your speed (this is the reason they have 2kmh incremented clusters - so they can accurately detect your speed just by following you) and issue you a ticket at a later stage (mail).
Id say he has chosen to go for the Audi (or another call out) instead of you.
But just because he didnt pull you over, doesnt mean you wont be getting a fine.
he doesnt need any photo or recorded evidence to issue you a ticket either.

A guy here over took a car on the highway at 130kmh but didnt realise the driver of the car he overtook was an off duty officer.
that officer took the details and issued him a ticket on his next shift.
The appeal at court was thrown out and the guy lost his license for 6 months.

he needs some evidence like a print out from the radar because if you try to fight it in court then they need evidence. my mate got pulled over on hid last points and the cop told him he was 34 over and he asked to see the radar so she went to the car and found out that she ad accidentally wiped the radar gun so she had to send him off and just tell him not to do it again

Ah ok im pretty sure they need some form of evidence such as a witness or a radar gun linked to a camera?? I forgot to mention that straight after this i went to the local police station and told them what happened. They did say there was an urgent job in that area at the time and that they would have been going to that job and not after me. They told me to come back if there were any problems. I did not ask them if he had to pull me over to issue a fine though.

Sounds to me like they were more interested in the Audi. They might have seen the Audi come screaming out in front of you and gone after it. From what you said you weren't the one doing insane speeds, you just sped up a little bit to get the number plate. If you're worried, ring the cop shop nearest to that area and make a complaint about the Audi and they might say that they already got him.

Well i just rang the Police station and the guy said they can only book a driver not a car with a patrol car. He told me i will be fine and if something did come of it i am officially on record for my reasoning behind the offense. He also said he has never heard of this happening because it would casue alot of trouble for Police (no evidence wise)

The only way your gonna get booked for speeding by a D is by admitting you were actually speeding, unless of course they have radar equipment on board.

Sounds to me like you are off the hook.

For all the people saying that cops need evidence. In court police as classified as 'expert witnesses' so if its your word against theirs, you will lose. They don't need a physical piece of paper with your speed on it.

your lucky, I had an idiot cut in front of me then take the same side street I was turning into one night, next thing I know red/blue behind me.

They thought we were street racing and when we saw the paddy wagon sitting at the intersection dived into the nearest side street to avoid them.

I had to explain no, I had my indicator on to turn left, he tore up from no where, cut me off and absolutely belted it down the side street. Oh plus I was on my way home, just 2 blocks away. Perhaps he saw the paddy wagon and panicked, coz I wasnt doing anything wrong and I didnt even see them, although it wouldnt have mattered, its not like I was going to take the extended long way home just to pass a cop car.

They considered it and told me they believe the story, although they wouldve been better off going after the guy whose taken off down the road and not the bloke whose doing 50kph in a 50 zone, but I was the first car they could catch up too ...
