My Daughter is buying a CDX Cruze for a car of that price one would think that it would come with an alarm, but it doesn't.
Holden quoted her $500 to install one , surley there must be an upgrade that one can just plug in , like in most other cars.
If any one has knowledge of how to fit a inexpensive siren or horn to the centeral locking system could you please let me know.
thanks commodore2004
I manage Steal Stopper alarms here in NSW, we have tried doing an upgrade alarm in these cars with a cyclops dynamco upgrade alarm.
At the moment, there is only an antitheft upgrade solution for these. We are mapping the canbus system so we can do a simple three wire installation on them like the commodore, captiva etc.
whats $500 ontop of the new car price. let holden put it in , if it stuffs up holden can fix it, and cant blame a 3rd party.....
$500 isnt too much to spend on an alarm on such a new car, you've got all the high tech computers to worry about, sometimes its easier to step back, and just keep everything factory. Could save hassles down the track
okay firstly this has nothing to do with ASR and should be elsewhere in the forum
secondlyI disagree to a pointif it stuffs up holden can fix it, and cant blame a 3rd party.....
We had a HBD sunroof installed when we ordered the Adventra as the SX6 doesnt have one. I could have sourced the exact same Holliander sunroof and had it installed by a sunroof place cheaper then Holdens price, but we thought should we need to have warranty work done Holden can do it. Sowhen we had issues with it rattling, Holden wouldnt cover it under warranty as its a "3rd party install"
See if its fitted at the factory they cover it, if its not they dont. I had to take it up with HBD as a 3rd party installer/supplier, because they may be Holden By Design, but that doesnt mean Holden cover the warranty on this item, HBD do. The same was a Holden Special Vehicle isnt technically a Holden
ALSO bear in mind, sales staff will send brand new cars to third party installers and call it "genuine" to make the sale. I see it at work constantly as I work in a multi franchice service center. For example, 12 months down the track we have cars come in with faulty roof mounted DVD systems, or the customer wants a second set of headphones or a new remote. Sorry, cant help, its not a genuine system. "but the salesman told me it was". Well, he lied to get more money from you, if you want us to find the fault you need to pay retail rate for diagnosis or take it back to whoever installed it so they can honour their warranty.
Of couse that also affects other warranty claims then, such as electrical faults that may happen, as the car has been modified by a 3rd party therefore warranty is void.
Something so simple caused by a salesman just out to make an extra buck before the car is even pre delivered, can become such a nightmare.
Just some things to be aware of ...
Thread moved to pub.....
Torquative, I agree with you that there is a lot of dodgy stuff going on in some dealerships. Too often "factory options" are way overpriced because they know that once the price is translated into the car repayments, it only makes a difference of a few Dollars per week.
But that is the part that anyone including the buyer can figure out. The sad reality is that the contractors they use to install or apply the accessories get screwed on their price, in many cases forcing them to cut corners and compromise on the actual products as well as the installation. Bearing this in mind, is it a wonder that the dodgy dealerships don't want to honour warranties? It's much less fuss to send the customer directly to the contractor and wash the proverbial hands...
The reality is that the Cruze is imported from Korea (it's actually a Daewoo), and alarms, tinting, towbars etc are all done at dealership level, not factory level.
Commodore2004, to elaborate on the original question of the alarm for your daughter's car, the Cruze has what is known as GM-LAN. It is the GM's version of CANBus (Controller Area Network) system that almost all other manufacturers use. I am almost certain that the alarm brand Autowatch is the only one who currently have the digital alarm that piggy-backs directly into the LAN (almost plug-and-play)using merely 4 wires. CANABL is correct in that Antitheft also have an alarm that works on the Cruze, but it is a modified "upgrade alarm" that needs about 12 or 15 wires connected. The two should be pretty similar in retail installed price, but the difference is that the Autowatch is a much more expensive product, but way less installation time is needed, where as the Antitheft is way cheaper, but the labour is more intense.
