I must say the boys in blue have come up with a very good idea that's being put into practice around Victoria quite a bit at the moment.
There is a current push on speed in Victoria. TAC Commercial says it all: YouTube - TAC Speeding TVC - Metro (I'm fairly sure this is the version on Melbourne Metro TV, there was another version made with a different voiceover and slight differences like a different radar gun used, but same message)
This morning travelling on the Western Ring Rd i spotted a marked police car on the side of the road like it had pulled someone over. Upon getting closer there was another police vehicle in front of the first one and a motorcycle police officer to the left of that vehicle.
Great idea immitating a pullover to catch the stupid drivers that think because a cop has pulled someone over they're busy with them and they can do whatever they want. I'm all for this sort of policing, letting people know that you can never assume if you do the wrong thing you wont get caught. Whats everyone else's thoughts on it? Or the TAC campaign (which i actually havn't seen on TV once yet even though it's almost a year old now)? Or did anyone else see it? Or someone getting done by them?
Because of the way the vehicles were all positioned and whereabouts on the side of the road they were.
The two cars were in line, with the motocyclicst on the front passenger side door of the vehicle in front ready to take off at any second. It wasn't just a catch up.
As for the location, the green arrow points to where they were: -37.688957,144.991048 - Google Maps
hey I agree Alien
And for those about to whinge if you werent breaking the law you have nothing to worry about ...
you should travel the M4 in peak hour then my friend.
people do it, have NFI why they do but they do.
Oh, we've got morons down here, they speed past someone when someone gets pulled over, honk their horn like crazy, show off (stereo systems or push up the RPMs to get a nice exhaust note out). Not sure whats going through their heads, maybe showing what they've got and what they can get away with to the person that just got pulled over!? No idea, but it happens, sadly enough it also happens at collision sites, but some people even go so far as to swear at people at the collision site (Drivers, passengers, SES, Police, Fireys).
imitation, police..... ahhh this takes me back Alien - you should have parked a bit further up the road that would have tricked everyone!!!
See it a bit here, usually when they are catching up but i guess i see how it could work. Rather see the resources spread out though.
speed doesnt kill...u are all morons.. YouTube - speed doesn't kill
Im sorry but when I seen the thread title I thought it was going to be a rant about being caught for imitating a Police officer.
Anyways, back on topic. Im all for it, what ever it takes to get ********s off the streets, but as vlv8vic said, it would be better to see resources spread out.
What annoys me is cameras setup stealthy, like bottom of hills, yet I live in 40km/h zone and atleast once a night we will have someone come past at 100km/h+, 60km/h080km/h seems to be about the norm for people, not once have we seen a speed camera or radar in the street, except the time they put a fixed camera in place, and it was burnt and smashed within two days, never replaced. Suburban streets need more enforcement then a bottom of a hill on the freeway.
Were you in Army Uniform when you saw this immitation going on Alien?
There is no such thing as stupid questions, Only stupid people.
Saw this being done in geelong on the weekend, 2 cars, 2 bikes. Cars were parked slightly down the embankment looking out past outbound traffic, bike and car were pulled over with plain car both marked vehicles lights flashing, plain car driver in uniform with door closed window down. Thought it was a great plan as so many go through this area at about 90, 20 km/h over.

Revenue Revenue Revenue.... Its all bullshit.
They should start jailing people for speeding instead of making revenue so they can buy more and more pretty lights to put on their pointless monaros. If they want a bigger bonus they can catch more people not up the fines.
So what if it is revenue raising?
I'd much rather the police be making money while catching people breaking the law than not. Less need to dip into the law-abiding tax-payer's pocket.
If you really want to thwart their "evil plans" then don't speed and you have nothing to worry about.
So sick of the revenue raising cop-out.

Most of the idiot drivers who speed have money and therefore dont care if they get a fine.
Or atleast fine them AND throw them in prison!!!
Exactly the message from the TAC Minister. The TAC would rather people not pay fines by not speeding in the first place. Simple.
Work out how much it costs to put someone in jail for a set period of time, then work out if you'd rather them fine them or use your money to put them in jail.
They might not care money wise about the fine, however when they loose their licence and then have to goto court for driving without a licence they can say hello to a criminal record. Especially with the new police vehicles that can pick out the vehicles that belong to people who are currently unlicenced.
Dont know about the ring road but there was one busy cop car in Brunswick this morning.I had seen him go after seperate cars and a shop owner i was talking to had see them pull over about 3.
lol @ people saying its revenue raising. If you do not speed, they do not raise revenue. It's rather an easy concept to grasp unlike our tax system. These are voluntary taxes, you speed, you pay. If people got this through their thick skulls the government would soon move away from concentrating on these things and go elsewhere. Why stop when you can make easy money from peoples arrogance and stupidity though?

I think speeding laws are great.
But I think ALOT of roads have too low a speed limit, and should be raised.

But for the speed to be increased there would have to be less people breaking the law by speeding and people being able to drive better. Get the right people on the road who arn't speeding, reduce "accidents" and the speed can be increased on many roads.
