I want to get some in car entertainment for the kids... Thing is.. I've read up on headrest mounted DVD players and they're not safe. Risk of kids smashing their faces on the screens.
What other options are their? I've seen some dodgy set ups.. Like metal bars holding a screen up in the middle of the 2 front seats. Roof mounted seems to squishy.. But I guess it has to be safer than being mounted on the headrests?
We do 5 hour round trips to a children's hospital for my son.. so we pretty much live in a car.
What do you guys think? Roof mounted? Good bad.. Ugly.. I have a VT.. did have a people mover (How embarrassing) and we just had a laptop shoved in the middle of the front row seats.. That was so not safe either![]()
I have a roof mounted player in my VS (that doesn't work).
It was good while it worked, half the people that get in don't even realise its there, and there is no chance of someone walking past, looking in the car and thinking they need it more than me. As far as I've seen most come with wireless headphones as well so you can listen to the radio while the kids watch their movies.
Of course you could always teach them car cricket as well. That game brings back some memories...

Are your kids giants or something, how are they going to hit there head on a headrest mounted screen?
Most kids would be lucky to hit there head on any part of the front seat in an accident.
As for roof mount it really depends, some look awfully tacky and some look awesome. Personelly I like the headrest ones that are detacheable, that way when not in use they can be kept out of sight.
No they're not giants.. But have you watched a crash test before? I'm just way to paranoid to even attempt it 'just in case'. Most of the head rest ones look tacky too! I've seen some shockers. Cords everywhere and yeh.. just ugly! I'm a neat freak so that just doesn't work for me.
Car cricket? lol Let me in on that one! We used to just play I spy.. Or we'd pick a colour.. and watch the cars go past and the person who got the most.. by the time we got to where we were going.. won.
My son is deaf so some of those games aren't working for us lol.
I'm leaning towards the roof mounted. Thanks for that! I figured it'd be harder to see than the head rest ones and then, less chance of them being flogged like they were in my last car.. GRRR..
can't imagine kids would hit the head rests. That 'should' only happen in a really bad accident, god forbid but if the accident were that bad I'd be tipping an extra cut or bruise to the face wouldn't change the outcome.
Seems a whole lot cheaper to get the lap mount ones. They're out there with headphones for under $100 these days and can be chucked under the seat while you're out of the car.
The lap mount ones could do the job as well, but I guess there is always the chance of getting dropped etc. Its fair enough being paranoid about your kids safety
Car cricket is all we used to do on long trips when I was a kid.
Every car that goes past is worth 1 run, utes worth 2, trailers worth 4, trucks worth 6 etc, and when a red car goes past you are out and it is the next kids turn to "bat", but you can only go out if someone else sees the red car and shouts (or just says) "howzat!". The winner has the most runs when you get there, or 1st to 100.
This is making me want to get some mates together and go for a drive!

Pick me up too! Sounds like fun lol. Makes the games we played sound stupid haha.
Lap ones would get thrown around yeh.. Think the little ones are to little to be holding something worth money![]()
