Default Strapping new turbo onto Saab 900i?

Hey guys, just wanting a bit of input into a debate i'm having with a mate,
he bought a chinese no name turbo off ebay, capable of 350hp running at 22psi .. he is going to put this onto his almost stock saab 900i aero turbo, me and another mate say shit is going to break, he says it'll be okay.
    What do you think?

  2. Default

well how much boost is he planning on running?
if your mate thinks a stock engine can handle 22psi, only one word comes to mind...

Only 350hp at 22psi? How many cc is the motor
Chuck Norris destroyed the periodic table, because he only recognizes the element of surprise

what could happen? stock fuel system = lean out = detonation. probably blow every seal as well before that. but yeah depends what happens. he could ruin the entire engine very quickly.

clutch and gearbox will be fine. the engine won't live that long to do any damage to them

as long as it's on king ultra super low springs with a 3 inch resonator it should consistently run 10 second quarters - easy

lol, always so neutral foamy. He's an idiot... hope he realises before it ends up costing him too much.

Not only is a chinese turbo immediate fail in the first place, he's going to run 22 PSI? I'd like to watch when the motor does let go.

true, but how reliable is it? I can run a stock ecotec with 22 PSI for about 5 runs before it chucks it too. Also, if its a cheap chinese turbo, how long before it starts leaking or needs a new bearing?

    Most certainly not.

The Japanese pioneered the use of total quality management, and it shows in their products, from electronics to automobiles, hence the higher price tag.

Can't say the same thing about the Chinese derived stuff.....

You think Japan and china are the same thing? China is the only country in the world that industrial espionage and reverse engineering is encouraged by the government. They will take a product like a turbo from say, garrett and reverse engineer it using cheaper materials and generally just f*cking it up completely, so they can on-sell a product without the initial research and development that goes into making a quality product.

Dont get me wrong, many quality companies have factories in china, but only because the labour is cheaper, doesnt mean the quality suffers at all as usually these companies impliment quality control procedures, but if its a NO-NAME CHINESE TURBO (ie: reverse engineered stolen technology) and not a "HKS, but made in china under strict quality procedures turbo" then its instant fail.

as i said mate, no name would be no go from the start..sorry that i generalised japan and china in the same catagory but to me they are all the same, altho i realise japan may well be the epicenter of technology and designs and i like some of the stuff that comes out of it..thanks for clearing up chinas floors though mate never realised they stole technology but i always knew there stuff was cheap and would touch it with a 10 foot pole.
