Try Coles bro i worked there between ages 14 and like 2 weeks ago.

I do agree that its unfair on apprentices i get $800 ($680net) a week and i have no skills that would relate to my new job atm, and fkn oath i do hardly anywork.

    Edit and I'm only 17.

I own an Commodore, therefore, I own the road

Whats unfair? That you get paid based on experience?

If you cannot afford to live on the wages your on, you are living beyond your means. People surely cannot expect to be on kick arse dollars straight out of school with NO skills?

Well to be honest, i do think first year wages are a little bit unfair compaired to how much the company earns from us.
For instance, a customer is charged $110 for an hour of my labour wich to me was worth $7.20 now tell me thats unfair :|
And this is an hour of labour that i do souly on my own with no guidence.
It's like on one hand, i have mum barking at me, "move out leave home your big and old enough" then you've got the government pressuring you to start an apprenticeship earning piss all money for doing close to equal work that the fully qualified person is.
i'm the one up on the roof, crawling around with spiders and rats, hanging off the edge of two storey buildings, dealing with annoying talkitive customers, not the 150KG A grade with the huge gut that's "teaching" me.

I both agree and disagree with you there Minux, yes I agree people deserve to get paid on experience, but frist and second year apprentices get shit all in comparison to other unskilled labour jobs. I.e. working at Macca's as a lacky would probably gross twice as much.

While i agree that trainee/apprenticeship wages can be fair crap - having been on them myself, you gotta look at in this aspect. That $110 fee/charge to the customer has to be divided like so: Rent for the shop/workplace, utilities (electricity etc), tools that mayve been used that need to be paid for, advertising for the company (whitepages, banners, ads) then wages.

Having said that, being on a rooftop, being on 2 storey buildings is your choice of employment.. Dealing with annoying, talkative customers.. Welcome to the workforce

Part time work is a good option to be economically safe. Experience always helps to get paid better.
