they have been happening for about 2 years now with maybe a couple of calls a month but just recently they have changed to about 3-4 times a day.
the wife and i have had enough, is there anyway of making it all stop?
"A life lived in fear is a life half lived"
Yes
There's a goverment list thing that you can get on and you wont have one ever again. My Mum and Dad put there name on it and they have never had one since. I however don't mid a talk to an Indian named Bob from Melbourne that sounds like he's calling from the space station Via Bombay on a line that he wants me to buy :P. They however all end up almost crying after talking to me for 20 minutes and realising I have no interest in phones or holidays
Here you go man

Just have fun with them. Everytime they call I just **** with them, unfortunatly they rarely call anymore
I pretended to put on tears and said "My mother has just died and there trying to take the body out and all you give a shit about is trying to sell me a mobile phone." He ended up apologising over and over, he was very sorry about his rude phone call, was priceless.
The best one I've ever had though was an Indian I could not understand a word he was saying, I would catch one or two words in a sentence, so I told him politly that this is an English speaking country and it is disrespectful to me and my country by him abusing our language. He went ****ing off, abusing the hell out of me and screaming, so I stirred him abit more about how in this country its considered rude to ring people at dinner time, well that was it, hes screaming at me saying he is "Astalian" (Australian), he ended up hanging up on me.
Another thing is to try and sell them something, Im yet to have success with this one, but have striked some interest![]()
I used to always just say I had to go get Mum/missus/neighbours cousins dog because she deals with the finances, then put the phone down and carry on with whatever I was doing.
The "do not call" list would be the easy way out though

Yes I love it. Slightly off topic but I had one of those dor-to-dor religion pricks com to me once, I had to get out of bed to answer the door. Anyway he was really polite and civil asking me about what I do and where I work. By the end of it I had conveyed to him that I wasn't going to buy anything but I had got him to promise to come to my work for dinner, and bugger me he actually came in a few days later. GOLD.
My brother loves to mess with telemarketer, the last one I overheard was a guy trying to get you to sign up for a mobile contract, my brother was insistent that he already had a contract, but the guy kept on going on how the phone was 'free' and he only had to pay X amount a month, so my brother spent the next 20 minutes telling him to send the 'free' phone but not to sign any contracts. Long story short, telemarketers hung up on my brother.

Isn't it:
"Are you interested in cheaper long distance calls"
"Yes i am but i'm kind of busy right now, could you give me YOUR home number and i'll call you later?"
"Ummm, i'm sorry sir, we can't do that"
"Oh i guess you don't want people calling you at home?"
"That's right"
"Well now you know how i feel *hangs up*"
My whole family only use our mobiles to contact and for people to contact us, all we ever got was telemarketer calls, easy solveed, we got the ****er disconnected lol. No point in paying line rental on something indians we don't know call us on several times a day.

We get these calls where it's just a beep on the other end of the line. Apparantely there are companies in India or whatever that have automated systems that call random numbers to find out if they're real or not. Once they get a list of real numbers they sell them to the telemarketing companies, who then cannot call because we're on the do not call register. Telstra says they can't track nor stop these 'beeping' calls, and they're targeting the exchange so even changing the number might not help. I call bullshit on the tracking part, they're probably just too lazy. Either way we get about 6 calls on one day of the week every week, and then a few others calls on the other days. This has been happening for about 2 years now.
I've had calls where no one is there a few times but not often
I work for telstra in a dealership, and even though we aren't a corporate shop, we still get access to an internal messaging system, and recently in an internal memo shit hit the fan because telstra was fined $25,000 for every person (about 250 odd people, if i can remember) that got called when they were listed on the do not call register. The indian telemarketers that telstra contracts to call people about changing to telstra were the main culprits.
Boy were the higher up people pissed off...![]()
I'm on the "Do Not Call" register but I might as well be in Timbuktu for all the good it does.
Had a call last week from some foriegn drop-kick. I said I was on the register.
"Oh, I am sorry sir, but that information is not available to me. Does it mean I should call some other time?"
F***wit!
I usually just hang up on them, unless I'm already pissed off I don't have the heart to go off at them, I mean, they sit in a cubicle all day getting hung up on...pathetic existence if you ask me.... (apologies to any telemarketers on here)
My marketing lecturer was telling us that he figures out where they are in their script that they have and then messes them up to see if they can get back on course with their script to see how good they are at marketing. He's a little messed up come to think of it.
do not call is useful but what really shits me is the door to door callers. they mostly seem to be for electricity and gas in my area. haven't had many someone selling door to door jebus lately.
they're usually from victoria electricity or something else totally made up.
they ask stuff like if you got a discount passed on to you, or to see a bill which is pretty invasive imho.
I'm on donotcall. It took a couple of months for the list to circulate but from then on we've not had more than two calls. Apart from the people on here who claim it's caused calls I don't know anyone who has had issues since signing up.
For those who have issues with it, take a proactive approach and get the suckers a fine when they call. If you follow the DNCR guidelines you can cost the company more than they are worth... though like everything it's easier to complain here.
I feel for the people who have enough spare time to dedicate to "playing" with these callers. Most people i know don't want them to call because they are an inconvenience - I'd have thought a quick hang up is a lesser inconvenience than playing games.
The only calls i have had since getting on the do not call register are from optus. It seems that because i am a customer of them they are allowed to call. I have asked to be taken off thier marketing list and havent had a call since.

As far as I know even if you are on the Do Not Call register charities and political organisations are still allowed to call you.
if your number is on the do not call register your service provider can still call you and sell u shit
yeah they say
who counts as public interest (according to them?"Some organisations operating in the public interest are exempt from prohibition on making telemarketing calls. You can also still receive calls from market researchers. "
which apart from charities, is pretty much a list of everyone i DON'T want to get a call from
- charities or charitable institutions
- educational institutions
- religious organisations
- government bodies
- registered political parties
- independent members of parliament
- political candidates.
