Im looking at a few Toyota Landcruisers 94-97 models 4.2 litre 6 cyclinder turbo diesel (tray backs not the wagons) one i like the most has 330,000 k's, but most of them have high k's anyway... how many k's is too many for this ute. Or any diesel ute in general?
If it has been serviced as per the book and looked after it will be fine. No service etc then 100,000 km could be too much.

How many cars is too many for you to pay for?
No good asking anyone here as it comes down to what your happy to purchase, not what any of us are happy to purchase..

The lower the KM's, the less wear and tear placed on the interior and exterior of the car. Not just the motor.
But in saying that, if looked after properly everything on the car could be absolutely sweet. Also, some of the very high KM's cars go for such a huge amount less than the low KM's ones, that you could probably put a reconditioned motor in there and have it equal out to be a similar price.
Just remember it's not only the motor that's done all the k's, it's everything. So brakes, suspension, trans, diff etc etc might need attention. My bro's GQ shorty had about 350,000k's on it when he bought it. The other day he took it into kmart for a free check up...normally anyone who gets one done there gets a massive list of work required worth 1000's. But the only thing they found which needed attention was the tyres getting low, and well it has no sway bars in it. It seems all the bushes were replaced (yellow ones I rekon) when the lift kit was put in a few years back.
If ya look around ya might be able to find a cruiser with all the suspension done already maybe? Could check out some 4x4 forums. If ya find one which has been lifted, at least ya know the springs and shocks have been replaced, and you'll find a lot of people do replace bushes at the same time. And normally they aren't much more expensive then the stock 4b's.![]()

depends, just like this bird...hot as lots of k's...but for the asking price well worth it!!!!!!
^^^ lol, she run alot of marathons?
I think it depends on the engine/car type, if there is a service history and if the price reflects the KM.
Some engines are happy going strong for half a million km with others start causing alot of grief after 150km.
Also as it has been pointed out, it's not only the engine but the driveline, chassis, etc that has done those km.
In your case, if it has a full service history and it drives well, then you would thing it's in reasonable condition and good enough to buy.
Good luck!
Diesels go hard!!! the body will probley fall apart and the gearbox will go shiat ..before the engine has a problem..
1hz's will go for ever if its had the correct service life, i.e oil change on time every 5,000km, if you turbo it later on, keep it sensible with it though, dont go anymore than 6 pound boost to stay safe, it will have plenty more go, but keep the reliability
when looking over it, check for costly things like swivel hubs leaking oil and grease, knocks in the engine, clutch pedal height for a worn clutch and signs of rust, rust is a big killer in those chassis an bodies
start stocking up on engine oil too if you do good amount of km's, they take 11L a hit of oil

carnt beat the old school commos...u carnt kill'em
oh yeah, my mate parents had a 5sp vn wagon, i think it was 470,000km, before it got taken off the road, only cause the car was flogged, the motor still ran fine, didnt have any major go wrong, only standard stuff, cas, water pump,
my mate bought it, we were smoking it till it got hot, but it was still going great untill we took the box out of it to put in another car

At 300kms you'll start to get possible coolant, pwr str, starter motor issues before the donk kicks it if its been looked after and if it has you can expect to pull 500+ out of her.
Change the oil at 5 not 10. Don't run it dry.
